They had found her a month back, not too far from where their new base was. She had tried running, but they had surrounded her small apartment so quickly there was no point in escaping. Not that it was needed.
Coulson himself-back from the dead-told her that he knew her reason for running, and told her that it hadn’t been S.H.I.E.L.D after her at all. Instead, HYDRA had been on her tail for the past three years. He went ahead and apologized for the years she thought she had to run, and in the same breath, offered her a job. Not her old job; that position was gone. Or taken, he never specified. Instead, she’d be working in the tech department, researching and developing like everyone else instead of giving orders. If she was going to be honest about it, she rather liked having her hands dirty, working with others.
It was her fifth day back when she accidentally ran into someone. She had her laptop in her hands, eyes glued to the screen as she walked through the hallway before colliding with someone.
“I am so sorry!” she said, fumbling to get a better hold on her laptop. “Really, I wasn’t looking where I was going.”
