a handful of Hazel-sized shells and pebbles the rising tide washed in on Sunday evening. when wet the pebbles are black and a lovely sage green.

usually Oregon beaches pulverise shells before they can be retrieved so I felt super lucky to find whole ones!

Hazel Graham's Collection, a Series.

In keeping with the tradition of the classic Pleasant Company formula, Hazel Graham will have six main outfits, and this post will show off the first three as they currently stand.

Meet Hazel

This outfit is made from Simplicity 1244, pockets added by me. Currently this is the only one that's "complete" as far as accessories.

Hazel Learns a Lesson

Hazel's school outfit is two pieces. First, a peasant blouse, described thusly in the catalogue: "Brighten all your skirts... especially good with dirndls! Gay embroidery banding on front. Ric-rac trims ruffle on neck and puff sleeves. Button front closing. Better quality washable cotton." It was $1.19, which in today's money would be $23.86. For my purposes the buttons in front are just decorative and the blouse fastens in the back. I also opted for eyelet instead of rickrack for the ruffles, primarily because I did not have decent white rickrack sitting around and I did have eyelet lace. The skirt is grey suiting leftover from a skirt I am actually wearing as I type! It was $2.49 then which is $49.92 in today's money. The "pockets" are not functional in the doll version but would have been on the original. She also has hair ribbons of the same ribbon I used on the front of the blouse but on the hairstyle in this pic they aren't visible. In Texas, and as a girl who runs hot (like me!) Hazel would definitely prefer something lighter weight for school, even during the winter. When she does want a little extra warmth, there will be a pink sweater vest that can be paired both with this and her birthday dress, but it came out too small and I have to redo it! 😫

What this collection still needs: a lunch, a desk, and a schoolbag. I will probably use my extra set of Molly school supplies, but I'm tempted to make her a different bag to put them in.

Hazel's Surprise

Hazel's Christmas outfit is made of emerald green crepe back satin. Because the colour and style made it so similar to Molly's Christmas dress, I decided to change it up a little by adding the sash. There will also be a detachable crochet collar eventually (similar to the catalogue image) which I have not made yet. I adapted various pieces of the official Molly patterns to make this dress. The dress in the catalogue was made of velveteen and came in either navy blue or rosewine. It was $2.98 ($33.01 today).

Things this collection still needs: a doll, a traditional treat, and something else I won't really know until I've thought out the story more
