some superpowers and/or magic could be genetic, yes? and if you're a shapeshifter, well changing forms must take a lot of shifting around your genetic makeup, since that determines how we look and our species and all that and so basically if you can focus everything just perfectly enough, you could give yourself another power because of it being genetic

love this question and the assumptions it operates on because the hypotheticals of it imply so much, each implication enriching the hypothetical even more when properly deconstructed. Short answer: sort of, yes. Long answer:

Firstly, "superpower" is assumedly defined with nonhuman characteristic that provides an advantage or distinguishable trait, used opportunistically in the favor of the wielder.

Moving beyond that, we establish that the superpower being wielded is shapeshifting. Which, the miracle of the power is not the shift of genetics as one might think. A genetic gradient, point mutation, or general mix up does not have instant gratifying results, and most often during a supplementation or deletion event results in a slow degradation of the living cells as exacted on an individual.

The miracle of the power is in the ability to generate and rearrange living cells without extraordinary pain and death. The amino acids and proteins and calcium and just building blocks of life necessary for this rapid, agonizing shift... that is where the miracle lies.

Think of how your skin reacts to even comparably sluggish and slow growth. Stretch marks and growing pains, ripping of skin in exacerbated cases. Now imagine the elasticity and physical supplementation required to presumably do this all at rapid speeds. It's within the realm of suspended disbelief, even and especially if we have the being consume raw materials to fuel the transformation, but then we have to consider how the mass is put away and out when they shrink significantly, even to the size of a medium dog.

You could do all manners of horrific things to your form if you had the ability to fundamentally change the structure of your genetics at rapid speeds and also not be torn asunder from the friction of your cells rapidly creating new ones and shifting at the same time, the fictitious friction unable to swallow you during this. But, assuming again, this is within anatomical and biological reality, the superpowers you could generate would also be limited to that in universe construct. The sky is the limit, especially when the stars have aligned to allow you to exist in such a distinctly hypocritical way.

okay so its time to share my special things to someone i like

i have a ruv who he's a brick shithouse built one and he's an ice hawk, he got the wings and the ice related magic, his name is Duske

hims wife has spring/summer related powers and she can't handle the cold too well so he keeps her warm and her name is Rosaline she is still a little devil

and recently, on the 7th of february, they had twins! Edith and Zephyre, and i had this cool idea where they have markings like their parents but its like... mixed together!! like you get what i'm seeing here right

birds grow pretty fast, Edith has already figured out how to fly and get onto the ceiling, though Zephyre gets fussy whenever his sister isn't nearby and she knows this so she tries to stay in his line of sight

Zephyre can also get on the ceiling, little bro can walk on walls

Duske is a great pillow for all of his fambly and he promises to be the best father he possibly can (his parents left him behind on a mountain during a snowstorm to fend for himself) (he is going to teach them how to hunt rats and other small creatures like a good hawk)

AWGHH they sound so cool… I love that theyre season-based, their little ones are adorable 🩷🩷🩷
