«Звуки Пруту» – це мистецька резиденція, під час якої українські, румунські та австрійські саундмитці створюватимуть музичну композицію з польових записів, натхненну антропологічними дослідженнями та звуковими пейзажами району річки Прут у Чернівцях.

Група українських, румунських та австрійських саунд-артистів(-ок) працюватимуть разом протягом 10 днів у Чернівцях та онлайн. Запису звуків та студійній роботі передуватимуть зустрічі з місцевими експертами – дослідниками історичного, урбаністичного та культурологічного значення ріки для міського середовища. Резидент(к)и вивчатимуть контекст Пруту і створять музичну роботу, що буде представлена наприкінці проєкту широкій аудиторії.
На проміжних етапах резиденції відбуватимуться відкриті демонстрації робочого процесу для студентів, музикантів та усіх зацікавлених.
Історичний контекст як натхнення
Протягом останніх декількох століть Чернівці входили до складу чотирьох різних країн: Австро-Угорщини, Румунії, СРСР та незалежної України. Ріка змінювала свою роль у місті в кожній новій епосі: у різний час на її берегах розміщувалися промислові, інфраструктурні та рекреаційні об’єкти, які створювали стійкі асоціації та наративи для кожного покоління чернівчан.
Проте, як і кожна річка, Прут не належить виключно одному місту, він тече далі перетинаючи кордони. Проєкт враховує широкий спектр метафоричного і географічного значення ріки, яка є одночасно постійним потоком, перетином кордонів, стабільним контуром на карті з рухомими межами країн. Резиденція створює простір для обміну особистим сприйняттям історії регіону в міжнародній команді та використовує цей процес як джерело натхнення.
Методологія
Музична композиція буде створена з польових записів у жанрі експериментальної електронної музики. Робота поєднає методи антропології (учасницьке спостереження, інтерв’ю), акустичну екологію (звукові прогулянки, польові записи) і мистецтво (метафоричні рефлексії через музику).

Sounds of the Prut is the art residency which results in the production of a musical composition inspired by anthropological research and soundscape studies of the Prut river area in Chernivtsi by Ukrainian, Romanian and Austrian sound artists.

The project is implemented by DZESTRA, supported by the Harald Binder Cultural Enterprises Grant Program (www.hbce.com.ua) and the Austrian Cultural Forum Kyiv.

A group of Ukrainian, Romanian and Austrian sound artists will work together for 10 days in Chernivtsi and online. Before sound recordings and studio work the participants will meet with local experts: researchers of the historical, urban and cultural significance of the river for the urban environment. The residents will study the context of the Prut and create a musical work that will be presented to a wide audience at the end of the project.
During intermediate stages of the residency, insights of the work process will be shared with students, musicians and the interested public.
Historical Context as Inspiration
Chernivtsi used to belong to four different countries in recent history: Austria-Hungary, Romania, USSR and independent Ukraine. The river was changing its role in the city in each new era: at different times on its banks have been located industrial, infrastructural and recreational objects, creating long-lasting images and narratives for each generation of locals.
However as any river, the Prut doesn’t belong exclusively to one city, it flows further, crossing borders. The project has in mind the metaphorical spectrum of a river being simultaneously a constant flow, a border crosser, a steady contour on a map with moving borders. The residency creates a space to exchange personal reflections on the history of the region in an international team and uses this process as a source of inspiration.
Methodology
The composition will be made from field recordings in a genre of experimental electronic music. The work process combines methods of social sciences (participant observation, interviews, source study), acoustic ecology (soundwalks, field recordings), and art (reimagination on metaphorical level).
