There were times when she was honestly convinced that Reyes was hellbent on punishing her somehow.
It probably wasn’t true. Ever since she had been released from probation and granted full agency at Blackwatch, she had gone out of her way to work herself harder than she ever had before, channelling her frustration into the job. And as far as she knew, this made her well liked, or at the very least tolerated, amongst her peers and superior officers.
But, things like this really did make her doubt that knowledge.
Finding out that she had been assigned what could only be called a babysitter from Overwatch was one thing--occasionally, they did have to run ops with the other side of things (probably for Morrison’s peace of mind, if she had to guess). It was another thing entirely to saddle her with someone who she could really only describe as one of the sourest individuals she had ever laid eyes on. On some level she knew she should have sympathy for him. She’d caught enough information of his case to know why he was here, and to know that speaking of certain individuals was absolutely forbidden. Hell, Reyes had even pulled her aside after she had received the recon assignment and made damn sure that she knew what topics to avoid.
The knowledge didn’t make the prospect of spending the next week with him any more appealing, though.
They were given a few days to get to know each other before they stepped onto any sort of transportation together. Feel each other out as people, train together so as to familiarize themselves with the other’s fighting style, mundane things along those lines.
She plunked herself down on one of the common areas to wait for him, scrolling on her phone to pass the time. She was supposed to have met him here a half an hour ago, but judging by the empty state of the room, he was no more eager than she was. When she finally heard the sounds of someone entering, she spoke a greeting without lifting her eyes.
“So, you’re the one who’s lucky enough to work with me for the next week? That’s cool, I guess. I assume they told you who I was and what I do, at least.”
