“Stop being stubborn,” said Duke goodnaturedly.
“‘s a triple word score,” protested Nathan.
“It's not a word at all,” Duke said.
Nathan looked down at the scrabble board with a frown. “Should be,” he pointed out.
“Well I can't help that, and I don't care that we haven't got a dictionary to check; that is clearly not in it.”
Nathan harumpfed at him and crossed his arms. He was smiling, but he was also not backing down.
“Really?” asked Duke with an exasperated fondness. He sighed and gave up, looked at his own letters instead; he didn't have the best selection. He looked at the board … ah ha!
He picked up a couple of letters and added them to the end of an existing word. Nathan tilted his head to better read what it had created; CUDDLEME.
“Hey,” Duke pointed out reasonably, “If you can have ‘pancakeyness’ then I sure as hell can have ‘cuddleme',” and he straightened the E a little, as if to make sure.
Nathan nodded seriously. “Guess that's true,” he admitted, before launching himself across the sofa to wrap his arms around Duke. “Was it a request?” he asked, belatedly.
Duke laughed in delight, “It wasn't, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the cuddles,” he said as he hugged back. “I'll make pancakes in a bit if you like.”
For an answer Nathan made a contended sounding noise and buried his head a little further into Duke’s neck.
Duke looked across at Audrey as if to say, What is he like when he drinks too much?
Audrey smiled back and put her own word on the board; ADORABLE.
