Alex took a sip from her wine glass, which she then placed back down on the table with more noise than entirely necessary. Not having wanted to attended a dinner where a Luthor was present in the first place, Alex had decided that is Kara was forcing her to go, then she was going to get drunk. Truth be told, Alex was already well on the way to being drunk when she had arrived at her sister appartment. Kara being friends with a Luthor was one thing, but inviting one into her home for dinner was a step too far for Alex. She watched Kara and Lena through slightly narrowed eyes, looking for any evidence that Lena was pulling the wool over Kara’s eyes. She just knew that Lena was no different from her brother and that she would stab Kara in the back at the first chance she got. Alex licked her lips, which tugged up into a smirk as she suddenly thought of something really smart to say; at least she thought it was smart, being drunk.
“Can I say something?” She said, over the top of Kara and Lena’s conversation, which she hadn’t even been listening to. Her words were slightly slurred. She held up a finger in Kara’s direction as it seemed that Kara was going to stop her. Kara knew her too well. She would know that Alex had nothing good to say. “No, Kara. No. I’m gonna say it. It’s very, very important. I just” Alex shrugged and laughed lightly before continuing. “I’m really glad, just so happy that a friendship originally based on your friend here wanting good publicity from CatCo has turned out so well. Just look at you two.” Alex waved her arms, gesturing towards both the business woman and her sister. It was clear by her over enthusiasm that Alex’s words weren’t genuine, but of a sarcastic nature. “To Kara and Lena.” Alex lifted her glass, making a toast, wine sloshing over it’s brim as she did so. “May their friendship always be useful. Euphoric. I meant euphoric. Wow, stuff is strong.” she pointed to her wine glass.
Kara stared at Alex, looking horrified. “She didn’t mean that.” She said to Lena, speaking quickly. “Alex, please tell me you didn’t mean that.”
“Oh no, Kara. I meant it.” Alex’s nose crinkled up as she bit out the words.
