koumba cooking carol breakfast then watching how she puts it together and doing the same thing — one of my absolute favorite moments. one of my favorite things people do. i love food habits & quirks, the culture of food. it's a memory i have as a kid of seeing my aunt do a thing i always did, and i was like "oh! you do that too?!" and she told me "no i saw you doing it" and it has stuck with me forever.

i think koumba is really interesting. he's always very kind to carol, and honest. he says what he thinks, he tells her what he knows. he's up front about how the others feel and even how he feels, but he's sensitive to her feelings and tries to be tactful. the whole poker scene felt so ridiculous, he's living his own drama series. he was disappointed when everyone left but he was open to carol and took care of her (covering her with the blanket, calling to say she was so lonely, cooking her breakfast) but he also did want her to leave. he extended an olive branch, to call sometimes and check in with each other. they have different perspectives and approaches (and personalities) but i wonder if it's a little more than that. that she makes him face things he doesn't really want to, that he's trying to ignore because he doesn't know how to deal with it, that right now he's having fun but soon that will wear off and the emptiness will set in. it was john cena on the tape but it isn't john cena!! koumba had to remind the guy in eye patch to stay "in character"!! he does not like that they are consuming dead people!!!

i loved the reveal that the other eleven people were talking, checking in and trying to "save the world." i think its good that there are different definitions. i think it's good that there are different experiences and reactions and grieving.

New theory. Or rather an addition to the one I have.

What if the HDP (Human-derived Protein) isn’t just what is “feeding” The Hive but also what keeps them intact in a human body and connected as a Hivemind.

Because you do see them eat and drink human/animal food and drink all the time. They just can’t produce it for themselves due to their claimed pacifist and vegan ethics. They can eat and drink anything so long as it is provided for them by their non-infected human allies. So they do eat and drink more than HDP. It probably just doesn’t sustain them enough in their human hosts. Which would mean they need HDP for other reasons. I bet you these other reasons are what are keeping them surviving for longer than they’re really supposed to and Manousos will be the one to figure this out when Carol finally tells him that they eat and drink this HDP more than they eat and drink anything else because they can produce and provide that for themselves. He’ll be able to work out why they actually need this HDP so much because it will disturb him beyond belief that they eat dead human bodies and it will be the first thing he’ll want to stop them from doing in finding a way to defeat them and save the world. And Carol will likely just follow along with him conflicted to all hell about it because of of her attachment to Zosia but will eventually agree that that is what needs to be done if they want to put things back to the way they were before The Joining and save as many still alive humans as possible. Because they’re not gone. That was proven in the finale episode when Manousos was trying to get through to “Rick” via the radio waves. Yeah, he never turned him back but he was able to interfere with whatever The Hive was doing to keep him one of them. So there most definitely is a way to reverse the process and I think HDP will come into it.

They haven’t really said much about HDP besides the fact it is what they primarily eat/drink and I think that it’s intentional because they can’t lie. Only omit truth.
