go, sister ; sohyun & sohee
Sohyun murmurs when the silence drags on for too long, the two girls huddled side by side on the kitchen floor, a shattered glass lying just a few steps away from their bare feet, - and Sohyun thinks she shouldn't have, - I need to buy a new one, something cute to compensate for that,… ; and she runs a hand through her hair with an exasperated sigh, craving a smoke more than anything right now while heavy words still linger in the air.
It all started innocently enough. Sohyun has moved into the Peregrinor house a while ago, - the price proved to be cheaper and the area seems nicer, but most importantly, the price really is cheaper. The tattoo artist thinks twice about moving in with a roommate, but her financial situation really leaves her no choice but to share expenses with a stranger. She's been just hauling her boxes inside when a cheerful girl approached her, offering help and introducing herself with a polite bow, - Great, Sohyun thinks with a slight roll of her eyes, a spoiled Seoul city girl ;
The more time she spends with her new roommate, Ahn Sohee, the more irritated Sohyun gets, the more she smokes, - and the tension in the house grows to be unbearable for both. There's no shared breakfast or dinners ; Sohyun prefers to sleep until noon and doesn't come back until late night hours, often drunk and probably a nuisance to someone who has a stable job and actually needs to sleep at night.
They grate on each other's nerves, both consumed with their prejudiced ideas of the other, - first impressions gone wrong and personalities that clash, - oil and water, - and quite frankly, Sohyun is being a bitch about it.
The argument starts during lunch, - Sohyun fresh out of the shower upon having just woken up an hour ago, grumpy and wearing nothing but an oversized shirt that barely covers her bare butt. She stares at Sohee's delicate hands as she prepares her ingredients for a porridge soup, - or whatever it is, Sohyun can't tell, - and takes a sip from her filtered water.
Later she ends up throwing the same glass she's been drinking from at the floor on a whim, - a fit of pent up anger from months they spent not talking to each other properly. Deeds they've done to spite one another, mean words and nasty comments, - all that which accumulated into shouting and tears and words that spilled and overflowed, secrets screamed into each other's faces upon the rush of adrenaline.
And now Sohyun knows, - knows how this fragile girl went through hell and made it back, through abandonment and desperation, - but she rose like a Phoenix and rebuilt her life from scratch, from nothing into something young and growing, a green sprout of hope, - and Sohyun feels jealous of her strength.
She sighs again, drawing her arm around Sohee's shoulders to pull her close. She rests her chin on top of her head, rubbing her arm soothingly ; "I'm so sorry, Sohee-ah, …," and she is, she's so sorry that she misunderstood her smiles for mockery and took her beautiful personality for granted.
She's a year older, she should've known better, - should have been wiser and more compassionate towards this girl (her sisters would have surely been disappointed if they' saw her acting like that, and the mere thought of it brings out the sting again.)
"Unnie's been a bitch, please forgive her for that,"
