My toddler nephew is having a rough childhood.  My sister is spoiling him, giving him whatever he wants when he throws a fit, while simultaneously ignoring him and pawning him off onto whoever else happens to be in the room with her; he is very attached, crying whenever he can’t see her, but she treats him more like a pet than a son.  Her husband is a Trump supporting redneck, and his entire family is instilling my nephew with a very toxic value system; I fear he’s going to grow up to be a stereotypical southern asshole, and I don’t want that future for him. 

That said, I’m not his parent, and I only see him a few times a year because they live 400 miles away, and I’m not sure I could do a much better job as a parent because I have a tendency to avoid responsibility when I get stressed out.  Being a parent is a thankless job, I am well aware, so I’m not trying to shit on my sister, I just see the flaws in her parenting the same way I see the flaws in our own parents.  She isn’t even considering how her neglect and appeasement might effect him, she takes less responsibility than I do.  If I ever decide to have kids, I want to be a better father than my dad was, and a better parent than my sister is.

Woken up at 5am by nephew crying unconsolable. He wet the bed probably had a nightmare. My poor baby I hope it doesn't become common for him like it is for me
