Ashton hadn’t really spoken to Rodrick since they arrived home. Which, in some way, might have been for the best. Given the circumstances. If there was one thing the two men didn’t agree on, it was the rebellion. With the revolt going strong those past couple of days, Ash had disappeared. Only sneaking out his backdoor in the early morning and returning in the shroud of night.
The young man hadn’t gotten much sleep, that much was evident, dark circles contrasting his bruised temple. His burns were barely noticeable, covered by a zip-up hoodie in the midday heat. Since the academy, he’d felt incredibly guilty. Like his face was the last one Rod wanted to see. Not that he knew Ash was involved, in fact, Ash hoped he didn’t. While he didn’t kill anyone, he certainly didn’t try to stop anyone.
Standing in the doorway, he knocked. Waiting for anyone to answer the door. There was a medium soup pot under his arm. At some point in all the chaos, he’d found the time to make clam chowder.
