Hello! I'm a new lolita. I was wondering if there's a specific way to wear a headbow. I see pictures of lolitas with their headbow on top their head, facing the front. I'm accustomed to wearing bows on the back of my head. Also, my dear friend gave me some dresses- one with a bow that can be put on the dress or in one's hair, but it works like a safety pin. What is the best wear to wear a safety-pin like bow in your hair?

How you wear your headbow tends to depend a lot on how it’s made to attach itself to your person. Most of the time if you see one on the top of the head it’s on a headband that will dictate if it sits right on top like this:

If a bow is meant to clip into your hair as well as onto your clothes, it’s not going to have just a safety pin, it’s either going to have a two-way clip with both a pin and an alligator clip to allow you to put it on clothes or hair or it’s going to just have a barrette, comb, or alligator clip. Usually if it just has a safety pin it isn’t going to stay in your hair very well because it isn’t made to grip into hair and the only way to get it to stay is if you were to tie a ponytail and pin the bow above the ponytail so it can’t slide down. That still isn’t always going to keep it perfectly in place though because it can still easily move back and forth. If you want to be able to have the option to wear the bow on your clothes or in your hair I would recommend removing the safety pin and adding a two-way clip instead.

You can sometimes find them at craft stores but also on etsy for pretty cheap.

What are the best types of clips for making hair bows? The ones I'm using won't hold in my hair because the bows are too heavy. Thank you. (Sorry , I didn't hear back from you.)

I like alligator clips with teeth because they grab on really well. I also really like two-way clips like this that have the alligator clip as well as a pin so you can put it in your hair or on your clothes.If your hair bow is really big and really heavy though it may be better to put it on a headband instead of a clip.

I was wondering if my ask got eaten? I'll just ask again in case, I wanted to know if it's weird or silly to use a detachable bow as headwear, there's a dress i really want to wear soon for a event and i don't have anything to use as head-wear.

I think it can look fine if you find a good way to attach it (pins that are meant for fabric don’t tend to do well on their own in hair) and wear your hair in a way that compliments it. I’ve seen it done before.
