In ancient times, especially war times when people were training hundreds of the same or several species, giving names to Pokemon were pretty uncommon. In the modern era, however, it's commonplace for Trainers and other handlers to name their Pokemon. When it first started becoming popular, these names were referred to as "nicknames." However, since nearly all Pokemon are given names now, they are just names.
Headcanon #12 [Torru]
Headcanon #12 [Torru] - Llamas... Do NOT like!
Torru, to put it simply, does not like llamas! The reason being is that during a summer trip, Merina and Torru had accompany Merina’s father, Scipio Hika, to archaeological dig in Peru. To get to the dig site, they needed to use llamas as transportation. So while the humans went to negotiate and set up what they needed, Torru was on a wooden railing for a closed in fence, peering his feathers and minding his own businesses. When he had looked up for a moment, he was staring face to face with a llama. Wanting to be friendly, he opened the telepathic link with the creature. But just as he was about great the llama... It spat right at him.
Make a long story short, it took a lot of convincing from Merina and Scipio to get Torru to not set the llama on fire. So any mention of llamas, or if he’s even near one, the Phoenix will throw a hissy fit, will puff out his feathers and flare up his head crest feather. His pride was hurt on that day, and he’s never going to let it go.
Headcanon # 12: History with Universal
[based on true facts]
Back in Oswald’s day, the film industry was extremely controlling of their actors. The contracts often locked actors into long term contracts that lasted 7+ years. The contracts gave the studios a lot of control over the actors, including many aspects of their personal lives. The studios basically owned the actors.
This was because the actors were considered to be the faces of the studio at the time, aka their reputation. Under contract, they could force the actors to be in any film, even if the actor didn’t want to be. They also controlled how the actor appeared in public, such as how they dressed, how they wore their hair, etc. They could even make them get plastic surgery! They could have them change their name too.
This explains why Oswald was forced to be in more Universal films after Walt left, and why he was forced to change his appearance against his will. Towards the end of his career, they even shortened his name to ‘Oswald the Rabbit’ in some media.
Oswald highly disliked the new appearances he was forced to have, and often rebelled against the studio’s policy that he had to wear that appearance 24/7. When he wasn’t shooting, he would often sneak off and paint himself back to his old self with the toon paint. He got caught many times, and they tried to hide the toon paint from him, but he always found some and always kept a supply of it stashed in secret hiding places.
