Some headcanons on Alastor's mama please !

We don't really know a lot about her in canon besides that Vivziepop said in a really old QnA (and I think again in stream after the season was released, but don't quote me on that) that Al's mom was a good person and was not in Hell and That Alastor said his mother's recipe for Jambalaya was so spicy it could kill you (probably not literally).

But we can gather some things from how Alastor is:

Alastor is Mixed Creole and I think that mostly or solely from his mother's lineage. Mostly because if it came from his father I think he wouldn't be so connected to African American culture from his era: He cooks black southern comfort food (Jambalaya), has Voodoo like symbols (I know this is rightfully controversial but it can't be ignored that those symbols are there and that it comes from a black closed religion), and loves Jazz and Swing music (which came from black culture). Also the joke his VA said (Alastor's new year resolution would be to eat more pale-skinned people) and Alastor's overall enjoyment of taking down people that are supposedly more upperclass or socially ranked than others, makes me think he isn't a fan of rich white people.

Probably a bit well-read since the name Alastor isn't very common and Alastor himself seems to have a fondness for books if his room is anything to go by.

Some of the guy's mannerisms are what we considered to be very feminine and androgynous so I think he got them from his mom and other women he's known. It would be kinda neat if his mom did a lot of the same hand gestures and (friendly) facial expressions that Alastor does.

It's been given the reason that he's nicer and more social with women is because he's a mama's boy who dislikes men. But I think it also says something about his mom that he tends to prefer being friends with energetic and mischievous ladies (Niffty, Rosie, Mimzy, and even Charlie kinda). He also had to have gotten that chaos enjoying personality from somewhere... Just saying.

Alastor seems to have a (aforementioned) dislike towards high-class people and seems to have a soft spot for "lower class" people (he went to a jazz club Mimzy worked at, compared to the other Overlords seems to care very little about appearing completely professional and always above his employees. Yes, he'll be a dick to them but he doesn't seem to care what they're doing most of the time.)

Another thing we've gotten about his view of parenting from Viv's old stream is he has no issue striking a kid if they misbehave but he wouldn't be too sure where the line would be from punishment to abuse (though he would be against severely harming or killing a child, in the same stream) and with how we see him spoil Niffty, we can assume that he didn't get disciplined much by his mom. Afterall, if he did he would probably know the line not to cross and wouldn't let Niffty get away with so much. Plus, if we take into account the Alastor's father probably did abuse the both of them or atlease abused her once, it's pretty common for one parent (the one being abused most often) to go to the other extreme and try to spoil their child. After all...

She was probably the one who brought the mentality (if unconsciously) of "Smiling is a useful tool" to Alastor. It's pretty common for abused parents to try to mask their troubles from their children and even unconsciously teach and reward them to do the same.

Too summarize who I think Alastor's mom might be/was: She was a working-class Southern Black/Creole woman who, despite being in a difficult situation tried her hardest to not only raise her child but spoil him when she could using her intellect and compassion for him. To the point of possibly ignoring or redirecting certain dangerous tendencies she saw growing inside of him. But I don't think she was like some of the other (specifically the dead or Lilith) mothers in the Hellaverse which are depicted so far as being very wholesome and calm. I think Alastor got his energetic, mischievous side from her. Similarity to her son she can appear very calm and polite but also be the one responsible for spreading small gossip (like saying one neighbor only started wearing blue dresses when they found out the local single doctor's favorite color was blue) and pulling harmless pranks (like sneaking up on people she knows to startling them for fun or telling people very seriously they've accidentally poisoned themselves by drinking the wrong bottle only for it to be orange juice or something).

Extra:

Yeah, I can see this lady from the Winners card possibly being Alastor's mom. Her outfit and hair is a bit modern but maybe she decided to modernize unlike her son.

The funny thing about the Wash story is it bears some resemblance to a headcanon I already had for Maine (it’s mentioned in the Drop) except Maine was probably more like 14, and also has no particular shame about it afterwards. He wasn’t big as a child, and when he went through a sudden growth spurt he was sort of unused to his own strength, briefly--but he got used to it pretty quick, once it sunk in that he could exert force to keep himself safe. Suddenly people were afraid of him instead of the other way around, and it was kind of a nice change.

Maine’s childhood-trauma-related emotional issues are definitely a different flavor than Wash’s, but it does kind of add another dimension to their relationship, for me, the idea that they were both bullied as kids. Especially given that they’d never actually talk about that, either of them, though for different reasons. They don’t know why they gravitate toward each other in Freelancer, why they get along so easily and find each other’s company so comfortable and communicate so well. They just do; they recognize some commonality in each other without having to talk about what it is.

What you need to know so far:

Character stuff

My previous characters were a Rogue Argonian, Mage Khajiit, and Rogue Dark Elf. I decided to make another archer because they're just so strong, and I don't really care that I haven't made a warrior. If it's not obvious, at this point, race benefits don't matter all that much to me, so this time I decided to make a muscular orc, semi-inspired by Corruption of Champions' Ro'gar. 

His name is Jackal and he's blind. This deters a lot of people from wanting to work with him--a blind guy shooting arrows? No thanks. But I have pretty decent aim and it's easy to OHKO in Skyrim as an archer, so I claim Jackal has True Shot. Story-wise, I'd probably say that he dabbles in magicka (aiming for a Bound Bow) and uses it to sense the general environment. The rest is a matter of knowledge and skill. I personally adore the idea that everyone's kind of scared for the well-being of this crazy blind archer, but they have to show him respect because he's Dovahkiin.

Despite the fact that he's a master assassin, Jackal is a pretty peaceful, easygoing guy. This combined with his otherworldly talents makes him sound kinda sage-like, but he likes to walk around town shirtless and isn't afraid to throw down for justice. 

Gameplay

It's Day 6 and I'm level 13.

Progress-wise, I just talked to the Graybeards on High Hrothgar and now I need to travel to Morthal, go to Ustengrav, and get "Jorgen's horn" from inside. I'm refusing to accept side quests and will engage in the factions after I finish the main storyline. I've completed the main part of the Thieves Guild before, so I'll probably do that last.

In reality, I've completed maybe three side-quests that are small enough to easily remove from my quest tracker. I returned the Golden Claw, I've beaten up Mikael for Carlotta, I delivered Klimmek's supplies to High Hrothgar, etc. As long as I'm not getting involved in anything out of my way, it's okay.

I recently "bought" Breezehome and my inventory finally dropped from 320/320 to 90/320. I may be a hoarder.
