Concept: Gothamites think other Heroes are Rude

Ok, so, we’ve talked about ‘what if the batfam are cryptids to everyone’ but, what if the Batfam are cryptids to the world outside of gotham, but incredibly well known and liked inside it? And the reverse is true for other heroes.

Like yeah everyone knows about superman, but none of them really know superman, you feel me?

Meanwhile literally every person in Gotham is on a first name basis with at least one of the batfam/rogues.

I think that this would leave gothamites incredibly nonchalant when meeting any other hero, and more likely to be irritated by the end of the interaction.

For example, lets say Katie the Gothamite is visiting her friend Anna in metropolis. Katie and Anna get taken hostage at a bank with a bunch of other civilians because Anna needed to make a withdrawal. So, they’re sitting there, in the huddle of civilians, Katie is sitting on the floor reading of course (bank robbery? must be Wednesday, these guys aren’t even wearing masks, bunch of amateurs probably wouldn’t know what gun etiquette was if it shot them in the face smh) when all of the others get knocked over by a blue blur speeding by, wrapping up all of the would-be robbers, pausing to wave and then floating off.

Anna: Kat! You missed it! Superman just saved us!

Katie: ... I mean, yeah?

Anna: what do you mean yeah?

Katie: I mean, he’s like, an alien who can hear everything and move at the speed of sound, so of course he got here to save us. Not exactly a shocker. (gets up off the floor and absentmindedly dusts herself off) What would be a shocker is if he actually had the decency to be polite. I mean really, just a wave? Not even a hello? An “is everyone alright?” I get that he’s got like, bullshit alien powers and could probably tell if we weren’t, but it’s about the principle more than anything.

Anna: he’s superman! He’s gotta be really busy... Besides, how did you even know he waved, you were reading!

Katie: uh, Ann? Not my first hostage situation. You learn to multitask.

Anna: ... Jesus Christ.

Katie: and tbh, that wave was a bit rude, you know? Like he had time to stop and wave awkwardly, he could have been doing something important like, you know, checking up on us? Honestly, no wonder Batman doesn’t like him being in Gotham.

Anna: oh, yeah, right, like ‘batman’ is any better?

Katie: look, I know you don’t believe in the Bat Clan, but you would Never catch any of our vigilantes leaving the scene without at least either checking on the victims or apologizing for leaving because there’s an even bigger crime they need to go stop. And if they do have to leave quick, you bet for damn sure that you’re gonna have a gift basket on your porch as an apology, and possibly one of the Robins knocking on your window one evening to check on you.

And it goes on like that. I just like to imagine that most superheroes are rather impersonal most of the time, but the batfamily all have attachment issues, so the entirety of Gotham is one incredibly close knit community the way other cities can’t be. Just, no one from Gotham is impressed by other heroes, and no one outside of Gotham thinks the Bats are real.

How would they both react if they were forced to watch their s/o getting tortured and not being able to do anything about it. Hey Hon! Sorry that It’s a bit late but I’ve been struggling with a cold and University having started up again. Anyway, This is a bit of a sad one… I wrote it through Jacob and then Sam’s perspective. Using they/them identifiers for their respective S/O. I hope it turned out okay! Headcanon is under the cut…

         Jacobstruggledagainst the tight restraints binding his hands and feet; the stupid blightersdidn’t check for weapons as well as his boss would have. That damned Templar, wasfinding a sickening joy in harming his love while he was powerless to doanything to stop him. But that wouldn’t last, Jacob just needed to saw throughthe restraints binding his wrists, with a throwing knife he managed to conceal,then he could make quick work of the restraints around his ankles. Then hewould make sure that none of the men in this room that had dared even hold theintention of hurting his love would remain in the world of the living for long;he would make certain of that.

         But thatthought left his mind as the bastard Templar delivered another swift kick tohis love’s now limp form; hanging by their tightly bound wrists. Their feetunbound but just barely touching the ground. The resounding scream that lefttheir marred lips was enough to light a fire within Jacob, “Roberts, God damnit! What do you want from me?”

         The Templargave a sickening laugh, Jacob watched as he dragged his sharpened knife acrosshis young love’s dirtied cheek; leaving behind a brutal line of fresh blood anda pitiful whimper. The Templar addressed Jacob directly now, “You’ve beenmucking up Master Starrick’s plans from the very beginning and I intend to stopyou. I’m going to start with your lover here and then maybe I’ll move onto yoursister just to get the point across. And if you’re still fit to take on theTemplars, well then we’ll just have to come for you next time.”

         The Templarwas so distracted by his own pompous speech that he hadn’t realized that Jacobwas free and his men were dead until Jacob had already slid a knife gracefullythrough his chest. Jacob then made quick work of his love’s restraints thankfulthat they were still breathing and he made a promise that he would never allowdanger to find them ever again. Though, his vow to protect his love might notgo over well with them but something like this would never happen again.

         Sam was stupid to believe thatsomething like this wouldn’t happen he had been a damn fool. If you screw overtoo many of the wrong people that kind of shit catches up to you. But he neverimagined that he would be in this deep; ambushed as soon as he walked into hishotel room; he had thought he had been so careful but he was wrong. When thehaze in his mind cleared he realized that he was tied to a chair and therestraints were too tight for him to break. What was worse was seeing his loveracross the room in a similar position but they were battered and bruised andseemingly unconscious. Sam desperately tried to call out to them, “Baby! Canyou hear me? Wake up, babe…. Please.”

         At his lastdesperate call another voice entered the room and it sent shivers down Sam’sspine, “Oh I wouldn’t bother Samuel they lost consciousness just before youdid. They put up an admirable fight but the pain was just too much.”

         Sam grittedhis teeth, “Julian, what the hell are you doing here? How did you find me?”

         Julian onlychuckled, “Oh come now, Samuel…you were so easy to find. You and your little paramour…”He circled around Sam’s chair, “As for why I’m here… did you really think thatI wouldn’t notice that you stole from me. Now I intend to get what I came herefor.”

         Sam tried tosound tough, “I don’t have what you’re looking for Julian.”

         Julianwalked across the room and Sam saw him brandish a knife as he approached hislover’s seemingly unconscious form, “See, I think you do and you’re going totell me where it is or your little treasure here is going to pay the price.”

         Sam was desperate,“I don’t have what you’re looking for, Julian!” Julian didn’t spare Sam aglance as he drove his knife into the arm of the unconscious form before him,an earthshattering howl of pain from his lover sent Sam over the edge, “I soldit, okay? Just please stop! Please!”

         Julianlooked over toward Sam, “Who did you sell it to?”

         Sam wasshaking now, “I don’t know! I didn’t ask for his name; all I know is that hewas the highest bidder; some rich snob.”

         Juliantwirled his knife, “Well, now that is too bad. In that case, I don’t see areason to keep your little lover alive any longer.”

         Just before Julian could bring theknife down one final time Sam screamed out, “Wait! What if I could find yousomething better? Something more valuable?”

         That haltedhis actions, “Like what, Samuel?”

         Sam tried toput some strength behind his words, “I don’t know… there are countless lostcities out there; take your pick.” The following smile from Julian told Samthat he had just bought himself some time.

“Actions. I....I’m really bad with words and stringing them together.” He sighed. “I’m a much more physical person, I feel like...Maybe I can express what I feel with a touch, a caress, a nuzzle...It’s really hard for me to quiet my brain and express what I’m thinking sometimes.”

“I live by my sense of smell, really. Anything....Dusty, sand, or the smell of sun warmed clay, papyrus, it reminds me of Egypt, of a time long ago when I reigned.”

“I have...Many. One of which is very real and comes out sometimes. When I starve...I lose my mind. I become a creature that can’t distinguish friend from foe. I worry I will hurt someone I care about. I struggle sometimes, believing I’m not this monster.”

One way to relax her that doesn’t involve killing someone is to let her look at the clear blue sky. She actually enjoys the clouds and the skies on the Earth so she will sometimes be caught staring off into the sky. She will even take to her helicopter mode and hover in the clouds for some time, just letting the clouds roll by in front of her.

Headcanon: While they're family, Mr. and Mrs. William decided they'd be foster parents rather than have children of their own. This is why their children have different last names and their appearances vary from each other as well.
