Victor Sullivan was no stranger to illicit affairs. The minute he stepped into the tiny office, he noticed the lingering stares and the cheeky smiles you and Sam kept giving each other and he instantly knew what was going on.
Sully shook his head, even though Sam was practically family to him, he knew how he was with women and that for Sam, love meant a steamy, passionate Saturday night that didn’t last through the week. He also felt protective of you, being the daughter of an old friend, and he was worried about how this was going to end.
“So, Sam, how are we holding up with the Northwest Passage route?” He asked.
Sam’s eyes were tracking you as you stood up to refill your coffee mug, landing on your ass as you bent down.
“What was that?” He mumbled.
“Van der Heul, Northwest Passage… Big money being invested into this?” Sully waved a hand over Sam’s face.
“Right,” Sam sat up and took out some papers. “Our wonderful researcher found out that the last position recorded in van der Heul’s logbook was 250 miles north of Alaska, but the Octavius was discovered on the opposite end of the Northwest Passage, near Greenland.”
“Captain Kidd obtained a shitload of treasure from his days as a seafarer, and as you know Mr. van der Heul was his quartermaster,” you added. “I have a theory that van der Heul wasn’t just out for the £20,000 prize for finding the Northwest Passage.”
You took out a map and laid it out on Sam’s desk, pointing at Alaska. “Kidd wrote about making a stop at Kivalina, but never mentioned why. It could be that van der Heul took some of that treasure and brought it to Greenland.”
“And how exactly do you know that it was Greenland that he went to?”
“They mentioned the city of Nuuk a bunch of times as kind of a checkpoint, literally calling it an oriëntatiepunt.”
“It’s also worth noting,” Sam took out two photographs. “This is a photo of van der Heul’s insignia taken at his home in Montaukett and,” he pointed at the second photo, “here is the very same insignia carved into a stone in Nuuk.”
Sully stroked his mustache. “Okay, I suppose this is enough to convince Holden to fund a trip to Greenland. Pack your bags, Sam.”
The trip was scheduled to be in a few days, and you were dreading being separated from Sam. In that time you and Sam had moved from his desk to his bed. It felt so fast yet so right being in his sheets, the blinds closed as he made you his every night.
You had your eyes closed as Sam’s fingers pumped in and out of you, sultry words softly spilling out of his mouth. Soon, you felt yourself catching your breath as you came.
Sam couldn’t help but to kiss you at that moment. He loved how you reacted to his touches, and he loved it even more when you gasped his name when you finally reached your orgasms.
He stroked your hair as you laid your head on his chest. You almost felt dizzy, just a few months ago you were frustrated with how your ex barely touched you, but now Sam couldn’t keep his hands off you. It felt so nice to have someone initiate every single time, and even though you kept trying to convince yourself this didn’t mean anything, the thought of being apart for weeks was killing you.
“You think you’ll miss me?” You jokingly asked.
“Of course, baby,” he kissed the top of your head.
Baby. He’s never called you that before. Was that a good thing or a bad thing, you wondered. Either way, you loved how it sounded.
“Just don’t get thrown in jail again or something,” you muttered.
Sam chuckled. “Trust me, I’ll find a way out if it means I could kiss you again.”
He put a finger under your chin and lifted your face so he could kiss you softly.
“Goddamn, those lips are to die for.”
“Shut up,” you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him in.
It was going to be a long few weeks apart.
