Coming Home || Heagan
Hunter returns home to his wife, but everything is far from alright. The question is will it ever be?
Teagan couldn’t just sit there any more, unproductive, waiting in a waiting room chair, while all of her classmates ran around, snagging surgeries, while her husband lay just on the other side of a wall, now short of one limb. It felt odd, not being of use to anyone. It felt odd, not being working, not being the doctor for once. In this case, she was the family. The very upset and annoyed family that no one wanted to deal with. The hospital waiting room was cold and by the time she was told to go home by a nurse, she was wrapped up in a blanket, half asleep. Too tired to argue, she did just that. She collected up her book and her blanket and made her way home. To her surprise, the next morning, she opened the door to find none other than her husband, the man who was supposed to be back in the hospital, resting. “What- What are you doing here, love? You’re supposed to be back in the hospital,” Teagan said, opening the door a bit wider.
Hunter was done with the hospital. Well that might not be entirely true but it wasn’t as if he was ever going to not have to go back. But for now he was at least home. Will Solace had seen to that after he had tried to sneak out of the hospital on his own with just crutches. It had been an early morning escape attempt. He had really only just gotten home, but he didn’t want to disturb Teagan until he had to. Leaning against the door frame he shifted the crutches gently and smiled. “I managed to convince them to let me go, it wasn’t nearly as easy as it sounds either.” He shrugged gently and chuckled, “can we come in and sit down first? I’ve not exactly got a leg to stand on here…” Maybe that joke was insensitive, but he felt that he had a right to make it. He needed to try and be positive about this situation.
Hunter sighed gently, of course Teagan would be asking questions, that didn’t surprise him in the slightest. She was a medical student, a surgeon, and she would want to know. Truthfully, honestly, hand to god, he didn’t actually know. “Teagan, I’m not sure.” He hadn’t wanted to tell her about this part, that was a mistake but he was loathe to hide anything from his wife. “I tried to slip out, made it down to the hospital lobby but Will was there and he caught me.” He sighed and shrugged, “Will made me rest and then after a long discussion and some arm twisting I managed to convince him that it was in everyone’s best interests I got to go home. By everyone I obviously mean you and me but …” he sighed and stopped for a moment, “but the important thing is that I’m home now.” He winced gently, stepping forward and pausing for a moment before he continued to move himself back into their apartment.
Teagan nodded, with a slight smile. She was still dressed in her pajamas, having just woken up from her sleep, wearing nothing more than a oversized t-shirt. Her hair was a mess and she was free of makeup, but the house was clean and free of any mess. She had spent most of the night cleaning to ease her nerves, “Of course, of course. Come on in, love.” She stepped back and held the door open,“Who signed your release forms? Isn't it a bit early for you to be released?” Teagan was shocked, to say the least. She couldn't believe that the doctors had released him after such a short amount of time. He had undergone a major surgery, he lost a limb. He was still recovering.
“It's alright. No worries. Did they give you any meds for pain? If they did, I can go and fill any prescriptions for you?” Teagan asked, closing the door as soon as he moved inside. She knew that the risk of infection was great and since he was out of the hospital, someone needed to get on top things. She had already taken off two weeks off of her studies, and was more than ready to take more time off. Once he was inside she moved to get him a chair, one of the more comfortable chairs that had wheels. “Hunter, you sneaked out?” She shook her head, but she wasn't surprised at all. Hunter was determined and stubborn, so it made sense that he found a way to get home early. “I made breakfast. I mean, I made it for myself, eggs and bacon, but if you want it you're more than welcome to it. I know the hospital food is shitty."
“Uh yeah, I’ve got a load of stuff still at the hospital but Will said he’d get someone to pick it up for me…” Hunter was still not used to the idea that he wasn’t going to be able to do things on his own, that he wasn’t going to be able to run and walk and jump and do everything like he used to. He tried not to think about the implications as he lowered himself into the chair that Teagan had brought for him. Sighing as he finally took the weight off of his leg he groaned gently. “I know, I know, I’ve already been told how much of an idiot I am and I would be surprised if you didn’t tell me off too. I just hate hospitals and all I was doing was lying in bed all the time. I can do that here easily enough, I’d rather be at home with you.” He shrugged gently before shaking his head at the offer of her food, “no, you eat that, I know you won’t have eaten because you would’ve been at the hospital. I’ll eat in a little while.” He smiled gently to himself, it was so great to see her, it had been too long.
Teagan shook her head slightly, “No, I won't tell you off. I know how patients often find hospitals to be very uncomfortable. But it was a very stupid idea. You could've collapsed or strained yourself, but I'm glad you're okay,” She pressed a kiss on the top of his head before moving towards the open kitchen where her breakfast plate lay on the dark granite countertop. “I was outside of your room for a majority of time you were there. They wouldn't let me go inside, so I sat and waited. Every time I would ask about your condition, they would just tell me that you needed rest.” Teagan nodded, picking up her plate and bringing it over to another chair that sat across from him, “Well if you're feeling hungry, there's extra. I made more than I thought I'd eat.”
Hunter smiled at her gently and pushed himself out of the chair, with the help of a single crutch he made his way, slowly, almost painfully over to the stove top and began to serve himself a plate full of food. He was meticulous with his steps and a little while later he was back in his chair with a plate of breakfast on the table in front of him. “Well thank you for that, I appreciate it.” He took a mouthful of egg and toast and paused for a second before looking at her and frowning. “Why would they not allow you to come into my room? I would’ve probably stayed if they had just let me see you!”
“I wasn't expecting you to be here, so our room is a bit of a mess. The bed isn't made, I just didn't have the time to do it. I was planning on heading back to the hospital, see if they'd let me see you. I mean, had I known you'd show up, I would've put on some pants.” Teagan almost stood up and told him to sit down, that she would get whatever he wanted for him, but she allowed him to get up and do it himself. “Not a problem, love.” Teagan shrugged some at his question, picking up a piece of bacon. In all honesty, she didn't have a straight answer, “I think they thought I'd be some kind of distraction, keep you up when you were supposed to be sleeping and resting. I mean, all I wanted to do was sit with you and hold your hand, but they didn't want me in there.
Hunter chuckled gently. “You’re kidding right? I don’t care that the bedroom is a mess, all I care about is that you’re here,” he carefully reached out and took her hand, giving it a light squeeze and nodding at her. “You’re the most important thing, I’m just glad to be back home with you is all.” He shrugged lightly once more before speaking again, “besides I like it that you’re not wearing any pants, you’ve got your lovely legs out for me.” He took another bite of food and chewed carefully, savouring how great it all tasted. Teagan was right once more. Hospital food really sucked. “Well next time you tell them to let you in because all I wanted was to see you, they wouldn’t tell me anything, no matter how much I asked or pleaded they remained silent. Had I know you were out there I would’ve brought you in myself.”
Teagan shook her head, sitting back in the chair, “No. It's a catastrophe. Looks like a hurricane ran through there. Clothes everywhere because I wasn't concerned about them at the time, but now,” Teagan groaned picking up a piece of toast from off of her plate. She took a bite and placed it back down when Hunter reached across to give her hand a squeeze. She smiled lightly, squeezing it back softly. At his quip about her legs, she smiled some more, “You're lucky I even had a shirt on. I had to grab the shirt closest to me and get the door quickly.” Teagan had tried to get into the room, but failed in the process. William, the man who had scrubbed into the surgery and was one of those in charge of taking care of Hunter post operation refused to let her in. “I tried, love. I tried. But apparently I'm not very intimidating or threatening.”
Hunter laughed and sighed gently, “It really doesn’t matter, we can sort it all out later and put everything back in its proper place, I genuinely couldn’t have cared less if an actual hurricane had run through there.” He took a bite out of the bacon on the plate in front of him and sighed as he chewed it, his leg still hurt but the pain medication was starting to kick in and stop it from bugging and bothering him too much. “You know what, maybe you should just revert back to your previous state, I really don’t mind, in fact I don’t think that you should have to be dressed on my account. That doesn’t seem at all fair to me. You take that shirt off,” he said smiling cheekily, it was nice to be home where he could have these sort of conversations with his wife. The hospital had been a lonely place, but he was finally home. Home was a better place in deed. “I know, don’t worry about it, I don’t blame you at all. Next time just get someone from the pack, Brennan … actually no get Martina. She is very threatening.”
“I'll clean it up later, I promise. It'll look like hurricane relief came through there. Spotless, I promise. Everything will be in its place. ” With a grin and a roll of the eyes, Teagan stood up and pulled her shirt up and over her head and tossed it his way, “Only because I love you. It was your shirt anyway, if you want it,” Teagan said, taking a seat again, sitting back with her legs crossed. “Damn, I probably sounded like a such a damn nerd. I quoted Shakespeare. Shakespeare! That's probably why I want all too intimidating. That and my height.” Teagan groaned at herself, reaching over to steal a piece of bacon from off his plate, “Martina? Alright, I'll keep that in mind in case I need to start intimidating people.”
Hunter smiled at her and shrugged once more, “You really don’t have to worry about it my lovely, I’ll help out and we’ll be absolutely fine,” he smiled gently at her and chuckled. Catching the shirt he had to admit that seeing his wife topless was something that he had really missed, reaching over he placed a kiss on her cheek. Was it too soon to have sex he found himself wondering. “Well if he made you angry enough to force you to quote Shakespeare at him then I would be pretty damn scared, I’ve always known that you were the most dangerous one out of the two of us.” He winked at her gently and smiled once more, “Martina can be really terrifying when she wants to be, kind of like how you can be all sexy when you want to be.”
Teagan nodded placing her plate of the coffee table to get up and place another kiss on the top of his head, “I love you,” She smiled, reaching over to snatch another piece of bacon from his plate, before moving back to her chair. “The fuckin’ eejit kept making height quips, so I hit him with the Shakespeare. ‘Though she be but little, she is fierce’, A Midsummer Night's Dream,” Teagan nodded leaning forward to fix her bra hook, which was sitting funny on her back, “I'm tiny, but I'm like all anger when my buttons are pushed. Hell hath no fury like an angry Irish.” she shook her head, taking a bite of toast, “Excuse you, I'm sexy all the time.”
Hunter smiled as he listened to her, he honestly had never read a line of Shakespeare in his life. But he knew that Teagan loved it and so he tried to be interested, the truth was that when everyone else was in high school reading Shakespeare, he was getting in fights with the other kids or running across the Nevadan desert with his mother and his brother as wolves. They hadn’t exactly had the most traditional of lives before Camp Half Blood. “Exactly,” he said with a smirk, “besides everyone knows that being little is better than being tall, especially when it comes to you.” He sat back and pushed his plate away, smiling at her. “Ah well you know you’re going to have to remind me of how sexy you can be all the time, because I think I might’ve forgotten during my long stint in hospital.”
Though for a long time, Teagan was kept away from the rest of the world in the basement of the little cottage in Ireland, she was well read. And she was proud of that. She spent a lot of time as a young teenager reading books from the Athena Cabin library reading all of the books she could get her little hands on, including Shakespeare's plays. “Being little is great until you can't reach something on the shelf at the grocery store and have to ask a stranger to get it for you,” Teagan smiled, as that happened to her more often than she liked to admit. “I am a walking reminder of sexy.” She teased picking up both plates and bringing them to the sink soak them.
Hunter gazed at her as she strode across their tiny kitchen wearing nothing more than her panties and her bra. It was mesmerizing. He had always known how beautiful she was and this was a simple reminder, all he wanted was to stand from the chair and walk across the kitchen to kiss her. Sadly that was far from possible at that point in time. “I’ve told you before and I’ll tell you again, the answer to all your problems is stilts!” he exclaimed laughing as he watched her lay the dishes in the sink. Raising himself from his chair he grabbed a crutch and made his way slowly over to her side, placing a kiss on her lips as he leaned on the crutch he smiled gently. “I’ve missed you walking reminder of sexy,” he muttered with a brief smile.
“No stilts! Stilts are not the answer! We've discussed this, babe. I'd fall and break my neck.” Teagan chuckled softly, turning on the sink. She waited until it was warm to run one of the dishes under the water, just as she did every morning. She had a system, first the plates, then the silverware and then the pots and pans. Once the first plate was done, she did the same with the second as well as the silverware used. She slipped the dirty utensils into the dishwasher and then the dishes. By the time Hunter made his way over to her, she was working on cleaning the pan used to make the eggs. Teagan grinned, turning a bit to press another kiss to his lips, “And the walking reminder of sexy missed you too, even though you really should be sitting down.”
“Stilts would look really good though! I’ll install foam and then you won’t be able to fall and break your neck?” Hunter smiled and watched her doing the washing up, it was weird, how she could still be the most beautiful person in the world to him and all she was doing was washing up in her panties and bra. He kissed her again, this time slightly more forcefully, slightly more passionately, with more desperation and need in the feeling of the kiss. He paused for a second to speak, his words nought more than a whisper. “That isn’t going to be a problem, just because I don’t have a leg doesn’t mean i’m going to spend my whole life sat down. i refuse to be seen as someone who can’t even stand, I’m going to fight for my life. This won’t beat me.”
“I know you want to live, love, but resting is important, so your body can recover and as good as sex sounds right about now, what if you hurt yourself, love?” Teagan questioned, looking up at him. Teagan wasn't about to deny the fact that sex did sound good, but she wasn't sure if it was the best idea at the time. But she didn't want to make him feel put off or make him think that she didn't think he was attractive or sexy any more because he was short of one limb, because that wasn't the case. That wasn't the case at all. “Or what if I hurt you? I don't want to hurt you,” She added, leaning back against the dark cabinets behind her. The last thing she ever wanted to do was hurt Hunter, especially after what he had just endured. She didn't want to cause him and pain and from what she had seen, Hunter didn't seem to be a big fan of the hospital and Teagan didn't really want to have to take him back if he somehow got hurt during sex. That'd be a hell of a thing to explain.
Hunter let out a gentle sigh and smiled at her once more. “I guess we’re just going to have to take it slow and you’re going to have to be really gentle with me,” he shrugged and took her hand before leading her down from the cabinet, he made his way back to the chair and guided her over to where he was sat. He took his seat and brought her onto his lap so that her legs were spread around his waist and she was sat up on his lap, smiling up at her he kissed her gently once more and placed his hands upon her pale skin, she was just as beautiful as they day he had seen her, “Teagan, I love you and I always will, you’re my rock and my angel and you’re basically all that is keeping me going…” He paused for a second, trying to think of the right words, looking up at her he smiled again. “I’m living for us, I’m not giving up for the both of us, that is what I want you to understand.”
Teagan and Hunter, taken by Zach after they had moved into their new apartment.
“This place is great!”
“I know, Teagan did really well.”
