She sighed, feeling overdrawn. This entire conversation was completely necessary but always left her feeling drained. “I’ll see if I could get into contact with a lawyer or something, just to see if it’s even possible.” She made a noise of frustration. “She just needs-” She cut herself off before she started to something she would regret. “I know it rough. I’m trying to be understanding.”
He sighed and shook his head. “We’re going to work it out Martina, I promise.”
She shrugged,“Legally it could get messy if something happened to you. Then she wouldn’t have any control. I get it in that way, but this was totally handled wrong.” She looked at him surprised,“I guess I should wish you luck with that then…”
“I get that, I really do, but I’m sure we can write a clause in or something to the paperwork that gives her some power if something were to happen to me? Either way I don’t understand it. I thought Teagan wanted a child. But suddenly she is acting like she doesn’t, but then she acts like the only children that matters are ones that she has given birth to, and then I think that I’m an asshole for thinking she doesn’t care. But it is all a lot to take in Martina.”
“I’ll raise the kid on my own if I have to. I don’t know if Teagan will ever say yes. I don’t know if I want her to. She honestly doesn’t seem to know me if she thinks that what I was last week was me being rude.”
He twitched and scratched the end of his leg where it met the prosthetic. “Listen, it isn’t that cut and dried, for some reason beyond my fathoming she doesn’t see this child as her, despite the fact that she will be in all but a scrap of paper.” He ran his hands over his face and backwards through his hair. “And now she is starting to talk about surgery so we can try for a kid... it is all getting complex incredibly fast.”
“Who stomped on your sense of humor?”
“I wouldn’t know.”
“That hurts. Am I not important to you? I thought what we had was special man.”
Hunter was frankly rather confused, “Frankly not particularly, we’ve spoken about twice.”
“It is your business. I’m note sure if I’d want Teagan involved anymore. And I wouldn’t make you pick between her and me.”
“Martina, this is a complicated situation, I’m trying to work it out with Teagan but it isn’t easy...” he sighed gently and scratched his forehead. “It isn’t between you and her, it is just tough...”
The tension in the hair fell over them as it was apparent Julian offended the other, but none the less nodded in his response. “No, no problem after all I’m eager to train…besides aren’t you in my cohort?” he asked while strapping up his gloves, “I think I saw a picture of you hung up somewhere around our barracks…”
Hunter winced, his claws extended into his palms and dug in deep, drawing blood. He closed his eyes and took a deep shuddering breath. “The fifth? Not anymore, and those photos aren’t of me. They’re of my twin brother, but he has passed.”
“Stalking and talking?”
“You’re flattering yourself if you think you’re important enough for me to stalk you.”
“Me and her had a conversation. It wasn’t pleasant at all.”
“I know that there was a altercation, but what happened between the two of you isn’t exactly my business.”
“Alright then,” Teagan nodded, standing up, “I’ll leave you to your lunch. get out of your hair. I’ll see you at dinner?”
He smiled and stood with her, kissing her on the cheek. “I love you.”
“So Teagan hasn’t told you yet?”
“Teagan tells me a lot of things,” he said with a shrug, “so probably?”
jules-per-second:
“Oh I’m sorry I didn’t think it was a uh…” he looked around, wondering what compelled him to ask him over everyone else that seemed more able. “I’m Julian and obviously making this weird.”
Hunter frowned and deliberately brought his metal foot down a little harder than was really necessary. “Just ignore the foot kid,” he said with a slight growl, “if it is a real problem for you then find someone else to train with, but I’m not going to be an easy target if that is what you’re worried about.”
martinanoname:
“I’m fine. Just… Are we okay?” She was sure Teagan had already told him.
“Yeah, of course we’re ok...” he frowned and sighed gently.
“And they won’t have a hard childhood. We’d never allow it.” Teagan shook her head. Calling her childhood (or lack thereof) hard, was sugarcoating it, but like she had just said, he didn’t need to know the details of it all. But she would never ever allow a child to go through anything like that.“How exactly can we be better? We are doing all we can and more.”
“This is what I want,” Teagan nodded, leaning back in the chair she was sitting in, “And I know you’d like to adopt, and we can still do that. I’d love to adopt; there are so many kids who need good homes, but, I would just like one of my own. One is all I am asking for.”
“That is fine then, it is settled.”
“I know you don’t get this. Any of this and I’m sorry about all of the crazy. But you know, almost better than anyone else, what my father did, and that is as much as I am comfortable to explain. You don’t need the details.”
“More compassionate? We are being compassionate. We’re considering bringing this child into our lives, helping her to raise it. With that constant scowl and attitude she’s got, she’s going to lose people faster than she’s going to gain them,” Teagan sighed, leaning forward on her elbows, “I am well aware that she is having a difficult time, but it’s not okay to give someone who’s trying their best to help complete crap.”
“No. It-It’s not the only way, I don’t think. There is a procedure called a hysteroscopy. It’s a minimally invasive, outpatient procedure that will remove the scar tissue from my uterus and my doctor thinks that it’ll work for me. So, I want to look more into it and I’d like to have your support about it. Because if it doesn’t work out, I am going to need you to support me.” Teagan paused, “I’ll do all of this, the mothering and all, if I can do that. Final compromise.”
The word crazy, it was tough, people used that word a lot. They had used it about his mother. He tried to ignore it and the implications that the word brought with it. Taking a deep breath he focussed on the task at hand. “I know what your childhood was like,” he said taking her hand and staring into her eyes with every scrap of love he had. “I just don’t want this child to have a hard childhood either...” he trailed off and took a deep breath again.
“We’re being good, but we can be better, we have to do better, we have to be the people who are there for Martina. I lost Zach, we’re on speaking terms but it is never going to be the same as before, it can’t be, not after everything that happened...” he sighed, “I don’t want to lose another pack, this is the second time it has happened and I am not letting her get away with giving you crap, don’t think that I will, but I’m asking you to be your usual, loving, understanding self.”
“Teagan, I love you and I will forever support you, if this is what you want to do then I am more than happy to work through it with you.” He shrugged and smiled gently, taking her hand again, “We will do whatever we need to, you don’t need to bring this to the table as a bargaining chip. I would support you in getting this surgery no matter what, if that is what you want then we’ll move hell and earth so that you get it. I promise.”
She had so hoped he hadn’t noticed her staring. Martina wasn’t sure she was ready to approach this situation. “I don’t know, maybe.”
“Are you ok Martina?” he asked gently, he’d always have time for Martina. That was just the way he was.
