There was no particular reason why Heather found herself parking in front of 5280 Old Cherry Road that afternoon, going to visit Billy hadn’t been more than an impulsive decision taken after that afternoon meeting with her support group. She’d even brought leftover food — cupcakes and cookies and a few slices of carrot cake some of the ladies always brought to the sessions in hope to cheer everyone’s mood. It wasn’t always effective, but surely Heather appreciated how involved and friendly everyone was there, it really felt like the only safe place left in Hawkins. She kept wishing Billy would join them at one point, but of course she wasn’t there to start arguing right now.
Heather just wanted to hang out. Watching tv, listening to that ear-smashing music he liked… She would have been good even with going for a ride. It was not like she didn’t have any other friends she could spend time with when feeling like her social batteries needed some recharge, but Billy was a whole other deal. She didn’t have to keep her smile always up with him, for once. Plus, there was something truly refreshing in spending town with a guy that didn’t care about girly things or the gossips going around time — especially when said gossips seemed to revolve around them lately.
But things weren’t going as planned. As soon as she’d reached the door, Heather had found herself FROZEN when hearing the noises coming from the inside of the house. Glass breaking, an adult man yelling… The words she could grasp weren’t anything she’d like to repeat, and the moment her mind started putting together what was really happening there — what had probably happened so many other times, she realized — her heart started to beat faster. She was about to ring the doorbell and try to stop that scary hell, but the door opened first. She jumped back in surprise, the bag of delicacies still in one hand as her eyes got wide as Heather found herself staring right at Billy.
