Picked up an extra day today. So I'm at work hoping that very few people show up. Feel free to come bother the muses or me to try and kick my butt into gear for writing.

He fidgets uncomfortably. His head hurts, he's underwater, he's drowning -

"Tell Charles how you feel. You'll handle it better than I did. And you've always been nice to me, nicer than I deserved, so I know you'll handle it better than I did. It might even make you two closer. You won't lose your Papa - I mean, your father - like I'm scared I did."

"You're not broken, Pietro." She gives his hand a firm squeeze at that sentiment. "I don't need to look into your head to know that. You made a mistake. Said things out of anger that you regret. We all have. Just like how I am sure Magnus regrets not telling you. Your relationship with him can be mended. I promise."

There's a soft and somewhat sad smile on her face as Pietro talks about her relationship with Charles. Again, that's not the important thing here. She's trying to connect with Pietro without prying into his mind. That would only make things worse, and she knows it.

"You are a good man. Not without faults, but despite your faults. A man we all love for who you are. Even on your worst days. No. Especially on your worst days, because that's when he need it the most. Magnus loves you just as you love him. Give yourself some grace."

That ... actually takes him by surprise. So far, among the X-Men, only Jean-Paul has seemed willing to acknowledge the hurt that the elopement caused without just shrugging it off - and Jean-Paul's hatred of Magneto means that he's only willing to act in Pietro's best interest anyway. Sure, that comes with Northstar pointing out Pietro's too-strong response, but still.

"I just - I know I was immature and awful. But it hurts to know he didn't want me around, for once (that's how he said it, for once), for his real marriage. ... He wasn't even there when I was growing up. We never got to share any moments together. And now ... "

Pietro tightens the bracelet, and he looks away. "Cute idea, but I don't think they need the reminder. They knew what they were doing; it was deliberate. I'll pass on being in the album, if I have to go in the center. Put me at the end, so we can remove me quickly if this gets even worse, or don't put me in it at all."

"There's nothing immature about being hurt. You're trying so hard to make up for lost time with him, and be a good son. And -not that my opinion means much of anything in this instance- I think you're doing great. Just because someone falters in an act of love, doesn't mean they don't love us or that we're unworthy of that love."

She'll try again for the photo when Pietro's feeling more up to it. It's not super important. Making sure that he feels understood and loved is. So she floats the camera off to be placed on the nearest surface. She'll come back for it later.

Jean thinks for a moment before taking another step forward. As she does, she offers up her hand palm up. Offering to take his hand in solidarity if he wishes. "Truthfully, you're braver than I, Pietro. I haven't the courage to tell Charles how I truly felt after the reveal. And he's not even my father."

Maybe he would have let that wording slide under better circumstances.

“Did you ask everyone if they mind staying still long enough for you, or am I just special because of my mutation?” Pietro holds up his wrist, then, letting Jean get a good, long look at the inhibitor bracelet he’s wearing. “Don’t worry about me moving. I’ve slowed myself down for all of you, like I always should have. I won’t be a problem anymore.”

He doesn’t wait for a reply. “Put my picture on the last page or slide or whatever, by itself. That way, if I’ve irreparably ruined my relationship with Papa, you can rip it out and get rid of it and I won’t have irreparably ruined whatever it is you’re doing.”

Jean frowns. That was meant to be a light-hearted rib. Not to hurt his feelings even more. She knows this should be handled delicately. Especially when the sight of the inhibitor bracelet causes her stomach to churn. He must really feel like crap after the big reveal.

She sighs softly. Dropping the camera at her side and take a tentative step towards him. "I get you're upset, Pietro. Admittedly, I was too when I first found out. We care so much about them, and it hurts to think that we may have not been thought of when they made the decision they did."

"The thing is," and there's a somewhat mischievous glint in her eye and air of conspiracy as she continues, "the album I'm working on isn't just for them. It's to remind them of all the important people in their lives. So I say that you and Wanda go dead center. I imagine Magnus would want nothing less. Because despite their misstep, they love you dearly."

"Are the two of you writing your own vows?" It's a question made purely out of curiosity. Not because she has idea stacked on top of idea. Magnus will not get a straight answer back if he asks what she's digging for.

Suspicious, Jean. And the way he spends a long moment studying her, once he looks up from his book, might allude to as much. It might be a simple question if it was anyone else.

But it isn't anyone else.

"... Yes—that had been the plan." And it still is, as far as he knows. They may have shared some spontaneous words before their signing, but those were hardly vows. The real thing has yet to come. "Dare I even bother asking why you're asking?"

"I'm working on something," is the response she settles on. It's as best as he's going to get. She hasn't decided on whether to tell Scott about the specifics yet, or Pietro and Wanda. Not wanting to risk anyone telling the pair. "I look forward to hearing them though. I bet they'll be as sappy as can be."

She's planning on paying close attention to those vows and implanting them into the album she's making. Putting them in the pictures that she also plans to take of the two of them on their wedding day. So when they looked at the photos and focused, they'd hear back those same vows as they were said.
