Cedar Street, Hearne, Texas.
$79,900/3 br/2200 sq ft Hearne, TX Built in 1910
Hearne, Texas, 1930s
In the small Texas town of Hearne, in a little neighborhood off the main road, you will find a monument to digging in your heels.
Hollie Tatnell was born a slave in 1859. When she passed away in 1911, she was buried in the "Colored Cemetery" near Hearne. In the 1940s, developers bought up the cemetery and surrounding properties to build homes. Hollie Tatnell's descendants would have none of that, though, so the development had to build around her grave. Which sits in a little median strip in the middle of a street.
