Heart Point

I’ve been back in acupuncture for a few weeks now, primarily for my back pain- and that has been pretty effective.  But my doctor has also known me and my mom for 9 years now and he has seen us off and on over time.

He met the widow.  He saw the changes.  He know about the boxes, the clothes, the quilt.  He’s seen me with Nick’s ring around my neck, to now-- with neither.

Over time he says he has seen a visible change.  He has told me I look “great,” and he says it with such honesty I feel badly for questioning him, but I do.  I don't feel great.  I know that time, weight gain, age and bad habits have taken their toll on me...

He knows of our displeasure with this place, of my mother’s family being a bunch of cunts, and he is excited for our next chapter.

He knows we’ve been packing things slowly to declutter to show the house. And so he was chatting with me while he placed needled in my back, two spots in my ears, one between my eye, three on my clavicle.  

And then he put one in my right arm near my wrist.  I winced-- my whole arm tensed up of its own accord.  He waited a second and I shook my head, and he said, “There-- I took it out.”  

He moved up my arm an inch and tapped another needle in-- mind you, he’s used these spots for the last three weeks with no problem-- but this time I yelped. 

He took it out immediately and rubbed my arm.

He said, “Those are you heart points.  I’ve been treating them because of the changes you're going through.  But today, you’ve mentioned packing-- you’re probably feeling like you’re back to when you had to pack when you last packed up a whole house.  That was a painful time.  And don’t I remember you had difficulty going through them?  This is all being brought back to the forefront-- even though you’re excited to move on, this is probably bringing a lot of old things back.”

And my eyes welled up because to be honest-- I’ve been so busy and anxious I hadn't even had the presence of mind to consider that this was true.  

Over the years he has been so perceptive with things he sees and understands,  he literally makes me cry in his office because he sees me. A me I often am not aware of.

Last session he grinned and said “I’m so excited for you both, but I will miss you friend!”
