Palpitations
I was all nerves and shakey breathing
My heart, rapidly beating
Sweaty palms and nervous glances
Could you sense my internal butterflies,
hear my heart racing so fast I thought it would break through my chest
You sat down next to me, not across
Could you see the blood rushing to my cheeks
Did you notice the slight spill, caused by unexpected goosebumps
My mind was foggy, head spinning, pulse
pounding,
pounding,
pounding
Shot after shot after shot and
nothing
Alcohol could never intoxicate me
in the way that your eyes always did
I should have been wasted with all we had to drink
But I wasn’t craving that sort of buzz
Instead I was craving your touch,
Lips against lips,
hands wondering, roaming,
through hills and valleys of
old
familiar
roads
Did you sense my yearning
Could you see through my calm facade
Were my stolen glances obvious, the slight biting of my lip
When your hand held mine, and you caressed my waist
Could you feel the storm building inside of me
Did you think to seek shelter
Did I
