Top 5 manga series?
Ooooo, okay, hmmm. This is tough, partly because when I lost my ability to log into one of the many manga hosting sites, I lost my entire log of bookmarks made over 15 years. So all I have now are what I own, and what I remember, which I know for a fact isn’t everything. So here we go:
1. Black Butler / Kuroshitsuji by Yana Toboso - Look I have been here for so long now. So long. I remember when we used to talk about 2CT and get mocked by the rest of fandom but here we are, triumphant over those fuckers.
2. Not Simple by Natsume Ono by Naomi Aga - A single volume devastating manga about Ian and his really unfun background.
3. Demon and Heaven / Oni to Tengoku - Basically an m/m featuring two fairly fucked up individuals engaging in an S&M relationship. In Game Theory style, it starts off super unhealthy and then gets much much healthier as they go along. Or, ‘the younger school nurse Doms the fuck out of the older, hapless teacher.’
4. Just about anything by Nakamura Asumiko.
5. Likewise, just about anything by Hagia Moto, but especially Zankoku na Kami ga Shihaisuru. This one is pretty traumatising to read, since it’s a serious exploration of long-term child abuse by a step-parent (which is shown explicitly, and horrendously, repeatedly), turning the young teen into a shell of his former self, and following his descent into severe depression and more. It’s a long series, and it’s comprehensively, beautifully drawn (in a fairly typical early 90s style). It’s critically acclaimed, and for good reason. But don’t expect hurt/comfort here.

I wanted to look in Manganelo but it (like Mangakakalot) are down, so I can’t look to see what else I’m missing in my bookmarks, and I’m know there’s a lot. For a start, Kimi ga Koi ni Oboreru is something I literally reread about 3-4 times a year, and that whole series by Takanaga Hinako is great. I love most of her work. She’s most famous for Koisuru Boukun, which is probably one of the most tropey, rapey yaoi out there, but I still love it.
Generally speaking, I mostly just stick to yaoi in manga!
