The story of people being rewarded by kings for saying or doing anything in their favor is much popular, however, in a democratic government, which is run by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), such incidents have taken place more frequently than they would have occurred in the era of kings.
Kashif Saif of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is an example of such cases where he was promoted as the PIA’s Station Manager, Hearthrow only on giving the protocol to the Sharif family.
Kashif Saif joined PIA in year 2004 in the Cargo Division, London and was then transferred to the PHS Department.
A lot of qualities of Mr Kashif Saif has been mentioned in the PIA’s official letter issued on the performance of Kashif Saif by Mian Asim Baber, the Country Manager in UK and Ireland which also includes the appreciation words as “his work has been always of the highest professional quality working under pressure with great enthusiasm and without any hesitation. He is conscientious and devoted to his job of which he has up-to-date professional knowledge. He has earned many appreciation from the management for his outstanding performance, hard work, honesty and dedication.”
The above mentioned all qualities were enough for the management to approve the request of his promotion which was also written in the same letter issued on 11th Novemeber, 2013 as “Keeping the above experience in knowledge, it is recomended Mr Kashif Saif may be promoted to D-7 on merit basis alongwith transport (GBP 100) and communication (GBP 148) allowance as admissible to other staff in UK to compensate the VIP handling/coordination duties with other agencies which presently he is performing on his own expenses without any remuneration and are over and above his regualar duties and outside normal working hours.”
Actually the real story is different which has been revealed by the email, sent to the Chairman PIA of that time, Nasser Jaffer, by Mr Saeed Ahmed of PIA London on 26th June, 2015, stating, “We brought to your notice nepotism and favouritism and in special promotion that have been given to particular staff Mr Kashif Saeed, who works at Hearthrow Airport.” He further informed about the promotion of Mr Kashif Saif to the Deputy Station Manager at Heathrow Airport.
He maintained, “Mr Kashif Saif is a product of nepotism and he is linked with the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s sons. You were very surprised you were very surprised of all this when we informed you of him. You kindly assured all the staff that this would not happen again while you are the Chairman PIA. We do not know if his recent promotion is in your knowledge thought and would like you to be informed.”
The reply by Nasser Jaffer to Saeed Ahmed stated, “This specific case or person was never discussed between us other than comments may have been made on past nepotism.”
Mr Kashif started working in PIA as Cargo Agent in year 2004 in the industrial grade and was then promotes to clerical grade in C3 in year 2005. He was later transferred to Heathrow Airport as Junior traffic assistant in year 2009. However, in 2011, he was rewarded with two promotions at the same time, as Junior Traffic Supervisor by Head Office.
In 2013, he was given GBP 250.00 as an entertainment monthly allowance.
Mr Saeed wrote all the history of joining and promotions of Kashif Saif, “The entire staff are very upset about this favouritism. It is specially demoralizing” for the senior and hard working staff defintely.
The game of nepotism by PML-N leaders and kings, i.e. Shahbaz Sharif and Nawaz Sharif is not only limited to them but involves their sons in the circle.
