“𝚠𝚑𝚎𝚗 𝚠𝚎 𝚠𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝚘𝚗 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚍, you said you didn’t think we’d ever be able to trust each other again.”  the remark is made casually, not aggressive like there might have been in the first year that they had settled into the ring.  she’d avoided him then, for the most part.  monty and harper were a little more welcoming, raven and her shared a certain... loneliness that had been somewhat alleviated with one another.  time healed all wounds and apparently antagonism was one of them.  echo had never hated bellamy.  she’d respected from the first time that they had met in mt. weather.  but she knew that the respect hadn’t always been mutual.

fortunately, things did change. they can banter – and they can fight, train with one another.  echo still liked to win as much now as she had the first time she had started doing this with the rest of them.  no weapons, just hand to hand.  her long legs were bent in a defensive crouch.  “of course, back then you’d never be able to best me in a fight. i’m not sure that has changed.”

   fingers rub at the blue and green stains on her hands from days of spray painting notes around the small town octavia managed to find. it’s not a half way point between school and home but after a week of silence from her brother, she figured it’d be best to stop. he’d wanted her to stay at her university after all. except that place had become more and more dangerous in since the outbreak began. the abandoned dorm rooms and lecture halls had filled with terrified and unwilling to trust survivors. by the third week the monsters, zombies, living dead, whatever the hell people were calling it had reached the university and left a trail of dead remaining students and faculty in the halls. after that---octavia wasn’t sticking around to become one of them.

   a huff left her lips as she moved away from the upstairs window, frustrated because there’s no sign of bellamy or mom and waiting made her anxious. i’m not afraid and the name of the street where the abandoned art gallery she’d been held up in at night were plastered everywhere she could think of. anywhere they might see it while they’re passing through to find her. the art gallery wasn’t ideal, not like the clinic a few blocks over but she figured it was the least likely to see much traffic. why go to an art gallery to raid for supplies? octavia left the title of a familiar book their mom had read to bellamy and he’d read to her painted smaller on the front of the gallery to alert them to where she was if they made it to the street. only they’d know what iliad meant.

   the past three days had gone roughly the same. eventually she hears the undead moving outside. that’s when she’s sure to make herself small. barely visible in the gallery unlike the group of them octavia left with had when they’d wandered together. but today? it’s not the sound of zombies moving outside that has her reaching for her makeshift baseball bat weapon. no, it’s the sounds coming from downstairs that have her terrified. that bell on the front door that rang inside.

GUILT WASHES OVER HER LIKE A TIDAL WAVE, but standing here isn’t going to change anything. there was war hanging in the balance && with the other pointing the gun to her head was surely not going to change that fact. torturing his friends wasn’t something she planned but rather something that increased her chance of surviving .  hazel always had to take care of herself && being back centuries later on earth hasn’t changed that. eyes squeeze shut && the sounds of his friends screams ring in her ears along with the buzzing sound of the shock collars.

“Tavia, what is-” her voice cut off suddenly as Octavia lunged for her, a finger pressed to her lips and an unusually nervous look on her face. Fox’s eyebrows furrowed together, but then the front door slammed shut and she realized she must have missed Bellamy coming home. 

But it was too early for Bellamy, and more slamming followed the front door, and Fox looked between Octavia’s bedroom door and the nervous, dark-haired girl beside her. 

Fuck! Mother fucking- the voice faded into angry mumbles, and a shattering of glass made Octavia flinch. Fox moved, making sure to stay quiet, and wrapped an arm around Octavia’s shoulders, but was quickly shrugged off and Octavia took her hand and the two girls moved slowly and silently to the closet a few paces away. Fox was getting more nervous, and Octavia hadn’t even spoken yet. She’d met Aurora only a couple times, but she had never seen Octavia like this and it was scaring her. 

The two of them lowered to the floor, and since Octavia obviously knew something Fox didn’t that was scaring her as a loud thump rang out through the floorboards, sounding like the Blake matriarch had hit a cupboard or something, Fox wrapped her arms around Octavia and hugged her to her until the sounds faded. Still they were motionless as the minutes ticked by, until finally Octavia pulled away, her eleven year old face only now starting to harden back into the blustering boisterous girl Fox knew so well. 

“Don’t tell Bell?” She asked, her eyes pleading with her best friend. Fox nodded seriously, and Octavia lifted her pinky. Fox wrapped her own around Octavia’s and the two girls kissed their fists, sealing the promise.

most of the time she gets it. in the beginning she sure as hell didn’t but now octavia can realize that bellamy keeping his distance from her ensured that this new life of hers away from being a petty criminal could continue to grow. it made sure that people didn’t connect her to her criminally wanted big brother. she’s got a small apartment to herself now and even has a full time job working in a gym owned by a single family. with the money she makes at the gym and doing fights on the side like the owner’s nephew lincoln, octavia might even be able to save enough to start school after another summer or two. most of the time she understands. but other times, much like tonight, she’s really tired of hearing how he’s doing this all for her. that the distance between them is all for her own good.

you’re my weakness. he’s trying to ease their goodbye as she stands with her hands in soapy water, cleaning their dishes from a late dinner she’d made when he arrived in the shadows. bellamy’s always trying to remind her that spending too much time near her could lead to his incarceration. could lead to hers if they dug deep enough which is what she’s sure he’s most worried about. “so then stop coming ‘round if you’re so worried.” she doesn’t mean it. would absolutely be lost if she never was able to see her big brother again but she’s tired of his running. sick of the way they’d fucked their lives up. 

her shoulders deflate, fingers pulling the plug from the empty sink before she reached for a towel to dry her hands. while she turns to face him, emerald hues don’t quite reach his gaze. too sad and annoyed with yet another goodbye. “we ever going to be normal?” she asked, teeth pulling at her bottom lip. if they weren’t forced into a crime organization by aurora when they were merely children maybe none of this would have happened. if they’d been given a different mother maybe the two of them might have turned out better. might have led better lives. emerald hues slowly lifted to his face as she walked to him, unable to deny herself a chance to hug him before he disappeared for who even knew how long this time. “i’ll miss you.” she muttered so low that she couldn’t be sure he heard her as she buried her face in his shoulder.

          STEPS ARE AS QUIET as they an be ,  the occasional crunch of leaves or a twig aren’t best for hunting, but there isn’t much elena can do about that !  earth was over abundant with wildlife &&  planets . . . everywhere you step, everywhere you look,   there seems to be some sort of planet growing.  earth was everything she IMAGINED it to be :  beautiful, fascinating.  && dangerous all at once.   ;   a hand grazes past a moss covered tree,  fingertips brushing against wet, almost soggy, leaves as she continued forward in stride with bellamy.  if there was one thing she didn’t expect to see, it was BELLAMY BLAKE━he hadn’t been arrested, elena made sure of that with the secret check in’s she’d asked one her guards to do for her while she was locked in a sky cell. ( perks of having a well known father, connections )         ❝ you’re a stow away now, blake ?  obviously i know WHY you did it, you won’t have to explain yourself to me . . what im wondering is how you did it.   that drop ship, from what i can remember was heavily guarded. ❞    she’s impressed to say the least !   of course, elena knew bellamy a little better than most given she’d spent the entirety of her childhood years as his BEST FRIEND━she knew how he thought, how he acted when something was wrong.    ❝ i’m impressed.  ❞    / @heartmotivated   gets a starter !! ♡
