TOO LATE ( Payback time~ )
Send me ‘too late’ for my muse’s reaction to being just too late to save your character from dying.
(Ⓐ) – The sight of Doflamingo cutting Lami down went through her vision as if the world slowed down. No matter how fast Akane had tried to be to protect the blonde, or push her out of the way, or attack Doflamingo or whatever, she wasn’t fast enough.
By the time she managed to make it to Lami’s side, Luffy had already started attacking Doflamingo with vengeance, leaving Akane some space and time to carry the thin girl away from the battle field.
Picking the girl up in her arms, Akane couldn’t stop the tears that blurred her vision and the way her teeth gritted. Damn it. How could she have let this happen? Even now, as Akane felt Lami’s aura dwindle away, Akane couldn’t do anything but run towards a safer area and hopefully find a medic.
Law. Where was Law? Did Doflamingo already take him down? Out of all the skills Akane possessed, medical aid wasn’t her best. She could apply first aid, but something like this… To handle a wound this large and deep, slashing across Lami’s entire torso… It was far too gruesome for her to do anything useful.
It was when Lami’s presence completely vanished, her soul disappearing from existence despite her body still in Akane’s arms, that gray eyes began to stream with tears. She lost a friend, and she couldn’t do anything about it. She was too slow… too weak…
Her voice came out harsh, strained. The pained words barely above a whisper as she set the girl down on the rubble, “Lami… I’m sorry. We’ll get him back for this, I promise. There’s no way he’ll get away with it, so you can rest easy alright?“
