There was an overwhelming sense of guilt that was eating away at Kendo. Guilt that she hadn’t been fast enough to save Juzo before he succumbed to the poison gas in the woods. He was in the hospital still because she hadn’t been fast enough, hadn’t been aware enough. She blames herself for his current condition, her mind playing through everything she could have done to help prevent this. It wouldn’t have bothered her so much if it had just been them. However, Yui had been with them. Kendo had managed to save Yui, but not Juzo.
But she was here in an effort to cheer up her classmates, not weigh them down with her guilt. She gives Juzo a warm smile, happy to see that he’s awake and sets a fruit basket next to his bed. It’s small, but she’d gotten them for each of her classmates that were currently stuck in the hospital.
She leans over and carefully presses her lips to his forehead. “How are you feeling? Vlad-sensei said not to worry about any homework or anything. He’ll let you guys catch up as you can.”
