Heatbox. May 20.
Mrs. Brisby lived in a cement box and it kept her cool I would that I were buried in earth The cool damp of loam and worm around me decadent the dream in this heat
I lay flat, fan on and ice water Breeze to simulate coolness This cement box of home isn’t so bad as a bus Laying in high desert heat with no fan no shade no breeze sweat, only, and wasps drinking it if I were very very still
No wasps here; I am the thirsty one The fear remains, the cicada scream buzzing at the base of my neck climbing my ocular lobes
Something in the heat is desperation Something in the white matter would rather be a wasp a worm a mouse a melted heat box a burial
