Liking You
Recently I’ve realized that everyone is so eager to talk about themselves on a degrading way. They find it easy to say things like; “My hair is a mess”, “My hands are soo ugly”, “I am boring” etc. But they seem to have a hard time talking about things that they love about themselves.
About two years ago; when I was taking acting classes in a pretty cool place, I had a teacher called Deniz. She was more of a mentor than a teacher to me. (Also a therapist to be honest, she was quite amazing and we still talk to this day). She got us to do an exercise which required us to talk about the things we liked about ourselves, and to do it rapidly, without thinking much. I was the first one to try it out, and it wasn’t really hard for me; the first couple of seconds were pretty awkward (because well, you are in front of a whole classroom of people, praising yourself and bragging about how good your teeth looks, for minutes!) but then the words started to come out by themselves and I just let them come. For me; it was just saying the things I say to myself every day, just out loud. But for some people -if not all- in that classroom; it wasn’t an easy act. And after I got the reaction of my teacher, I was sure that this was a challenging exercise because she pretended that I had just done some impossible magic trick. And I remember her saying; “That is a very healthy relationship you see here.” The relationship she is talking about is the one we have with ourselves. But how and why does this relationship ever get “unhealthy”? Why do we feel uncomfortable voicing our positive thoughts on ourselves? I am no doctor, so I wouldn’t know. But if there is one thing that I know how to do; is to praise myself to the gods. So; here is a list of the first 7 things that come to my mind, when I think of what I like about me.
1. My neck; I mean, it is strong (literally carries my whole body weight when I am doing headstands) but looks sooo feminine and graceful. Also my skin on my neck is so smooth and beautiful I love it.
2. My knees; My knees are, let’s say; different. I am the opposite of bow-legged, my knees have very prominent bones in the inner side of them, therefore; these bones push on each other pretty hard when I get my ankles together. This condition is pretty rare; and it gives my legs a doll-like look. Think of Barbie, or any long-legged plush doll; those are my knees :)
3. My hardworking nature; I am very lucky, but I hardly ever leave anything to luck. I am very hardworking and I never get tired. Just like a shark, I die when I stop.
4.My ears; They are small, cute and my hearing is very sharp. Love them.
5.I am a great friend; Literally, I would sacrifice a lot to have a friend like me. I am the most loyal person I know to this day and it is very hard for me to give up on people. If I am someone’s friend, I am there for life. (Also great at keeping secrets xx)
6. My hands; They are so good-looking with just enough veins, also my nails are very long and lean naturally so every nailpolish looks amazing on them.
7. My height; It is not too tall, but I am definitely a tall person. I love it. My arms and legs are quite long too so people usually assume I am taller than I actually am.
I encourage everyone to just think about their own seven things. And maybe post them too. Lots of love xx
