We know what Viggo would physically like in a man (duhhh) but what would he be into in a woman
*inserts picture of Heather here*
Lol, I’m only sort of joking. You see, Viggo absolutely appreciates people’s physical attributes, but I don’t think he has much of a preference when it comes to that. Viggo is much more interested in a person’s intellect, and if they present a challenge for him. If you can hold your own against him or at least try, you’re attractive to him.
At least, that seems to be the “pattern.” We only saw said attraction for both Heather and Hiccup. (I will definitely argue for the Viggo/Heather ship. It was there, albeit much more short lived.)
I haven’t written him with women as much, but he likes it when people have a fire in them. He wants someone (dare I say it?) “feisty.”
So, I guess I can’t really say what his physical type is. I feel that for him his appreciation of intellect comes first, followed secondly by appreciation for physical features.
I just watched “Have Dragon, will Travel, Part 2” and in the girls talk between Astrid and Heather, Astrid jokes about Heather and Snotlout being a match made in Valhalla. Heather states she’s not into these “macho vikings” and says “I like a little smarts.” Which is why she prefers Fishlegs.
I learn German in school and as a preparation for my finals I watch Rtte in German and I notice that this quote from Heather is translated different, which makes me think she had a crush on Viggo. She says “Ich steh auf die Intelligenten, wie Fischbein” it basically means “I’m attracted to intelligence, like Fishlegs” which made me headcanon that Heather definitely had a thing for Viggo when they met. I mean he is THE Intelligent guy and attractive too!!!
Oh that’s so interesting that it got translated differently! Translators doing all the shipping work for us! (Thinking of the Destiel translator incident.)
I like that idea. I know Viggo wanted to use and manipulate her, and she was really doing the same to him, but their relationship dynamic and the mentality surrounding it is super fun to explore. Out of all the characters in Race to the Edge, Heather is the only one other than Hiccip to be referred to as “my dear” by Viggo.
God, they’d be so much more fucked up if they’d managed to get together and stay that way.
Summary: Hiccup and Heather bond over Viggo's attraction to them.

"Have you ever noticed that Viggo only calls Hiccup 'my dear'?" Tuffnut asked. "No one else. Just Hiccup."
Hiccup straightened at that. He and the Riders were all sitting in the clubhouse, having a lazy afternoon. Tuffnut's words had come out of the blue.
"Why do you bring that up?" Hiccup asked, uncomfortable with the reminder of how Viggo spoke to him.
Tuffnut shrugged. "Just came to mind and what comes to my mind comes out of my mouth."
Hiccup rose suddenly from his chair. Everyone looked at him, and the hair on the back of his neck rose. He didn't like this attention, especially not over something like this.
"I, uh, just remembered that I have this thing... to, uh, do," Hiccup got out clumsily. "Come on, Toothless." Hiccup motioned with his hand, and his dragon let out what sounded like a sigh, and stood. Together, the two of them left the clubhouse. Hiccup could feel the Dragon Riders watching him as he went. They seemed confused, but no one tried to stop him.
Once in his hut, Hiccup sat at his desk, looking at the cogs and wheels on it, at his drawings. He sighed, put his head in his hands. Toothless came over to him, nuzzled his elbow, making a concerned cooing noise.
"I'm sorry, Toothless," Hiccup said. He looked at his dragon. "I just... The conversation made me uncomfortable." He knew Toothless wouldn't understand, but he had to tell him anyway.
Toothless cooed in answer, and Hiccup rubbed him on the head. the usual happy feelings he got from that kind of interaction didn't show. Instead, his stomach was twisting.
Viggo. It was true that he referred to him as "my dear Hiccup" and "my boy", that he never spoke to any of the other Riders that way. He made him terribly uncomfortable. He knew what Viggo wanted with him. He just hoped his friends hadn't figured it out.
There was a soft knock on his door. "Hiccup, it's me," Heather's voice came from outside.
Hiccup supposed he could talk to Heather. She hadn't been around for any of the times that Viggo had called him those things. Maybe she would be better about it than his other friends.
"Come in!" Hiccup called. He turned in his chair, then motioned for Toothless to light the fire. He realized that he'd been sitting in the dark.
Heather came in as Toothless lumbered over to the fireplace and let off a short blast. Soon, the logs were crackling and sparking with flame, and light danced across the floor.
"The others didn't send you, did they?" Hiccup asked.
Heather shook her head, closing the door behind her. "I came because, well, because I understand."
"You do?" Hiccup asked, completely shocked by this.
Heather nodded, pulled up a chair beside Hiccup. Toothless laid himself down in front of the fire, hogging the heat from it.
"He calls me those things too," Heather said quietly. "I... Can I tell you something I've never told anybody?"
"Of course." Hiccup and Heather were close, and maybe even closer now because of their shared experience. Viggo was attracted to the both of them, it would seem.
"I slept with him," Heather said. "When I was a spy for you guys. I... I knew he was attracted to me, so I faked it back."
Hiccup tried to swallow back bile. He couldn't imagine doing that, sleeping with the enemy to gain trust and information. Heather though - Heather had been perfect for the job.
But still...
"I'm sorry, Heather." Hiccup placed his hand on her knee. "I'm sorry you had to do that for us."
Heather pursed her lips. "I guess I am too." She shook her head. "He knew I was a spy the entire time, and he just... he just used me."
Hiccup didn't know what to say. She was right about that, about being used. In a way, Hiccup felt used too. They were all just pieces in his game.
"Look, we don't... we don't have to be what he wants us to be," Hiccup said. "We won't be his darlings."
Heather smiled at him, and it was a dangerous look, a threat to Viggo. "No. We won't."
