I first heard Patty Griffin's music about 8 years ago when I was buying books at Barnes and Noble (or some bookstore like it) and was given a free Patty Griffin 'demo' with three songs on it. One of them being this one, the other two, 'Long Ride Home' and 'Mary'. I listened to the three songs over and over and I believe it was around this time that I started opening my musical mind up to 'country' music (although I don't associate Patty Griffin with 'country' so much as southern/american/folk/whathaveyou....can't say I am the biggest 'country music' fan...sorry!).

Her songwriting and her voice swept me away immediately, and even inspired me to cover some of her songs. I just learned today that this particular song is about her dog, which gets me right to the heart (my dog is my BFF) and she explains that its one of her very few "love songs". I'm personally not one to write many "love songs" (in the lovey-dovey-kissey-huggy kind of way) and I guess I am a big fan of women who don't do so either. I also learned today (thanks, Wikipedia!) that she is married to ROBERT PLANT(!!!!!!!) and they both live in Austin, Texas together.

Griffin's album entitled Downtown Church won the Grammy Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album two years ago and I think that is just great, and well deserved :)
