[ Hearing about what the Capitol had done and seeing it inspired completely separate reactions. With the visual conformation she could pretend it wasn't as bad as all that, that those people didn't have the power to completely tear them down. But seeing Peeta it was impossible to deny what was right in front of her.
Though their interactions were limited to a few passing glances before the quarter quell, Sophia had learnt to respect Peeta Mellark after watching his progression through each set of games. He was strong, and not just physically. The loyalty he'd inspired amongst his friends had made her want to meet him. The real him, not the broken boy the Capitol had chewed up and spit out.
After his reaction to Katniss, they'd come to her and asked her to try and talk to him. They had no connection that Snow could have exploited and she too had survived the games. Mostly Sophia just thought no one wanted Coin to be the one to talk to him, the woman made her skin crawl. Just something about her that Sophia couldn't bring herself to trust.
Slipping into the room she warily eyed the restrained boy. He looked terrible. What on earth had they done to him? Raising the tray with a meal on it to show why she was there, she couldn't help but cast another glance to his restraints. There'd been a reason they were giving him food that didn't require a knife and fork. ]
"If I release those straps are you going to try anything?"

Peeta Mellark. The newest prisoner for the Capitol. Just hours ago he was brought into the underground world beneath the grounds of the Capitol. Plucked from the very arena his fiancé blew up to start a civl war in her own country. Watching for the first few days by the President's side as the beginning treatments and torture tactics were inflicted upon the 18 year old boy.
Even though Presidnet Snow was a heartless man, a day of rest was given to the boy to let his body heal and adjust to the rounds of medication sent through his system at almost all hours of the day and night.
As the morning dawned over the Capitol Cora Barre, the girl that had been rescued from the arena of the 70th Hunger Games and played the guinea-pig role through the hijacking tests, was sent to take Peeta Mellark a meek breakfast of plain foods to keep him somewhat useful. Letting him die in the cells was not going to get then what they wanted after all.
"Wake up, time for breakfast, Mellark."
She called as she entered a small code before the sliding door opened to the boys cell. Her heals that clung to her feel clicked against the marble floor as she dropped the tray of food on the small steel table next to the cot.
