A hecatomb originally referred to an ancient ritual where 100 oxen or cattle were sacrificed to the gods, particularly in ancient Greece or Rome. The term later broadened to indicate any large-scale offering or mass slaughter, whether in religious contexts or as a metaphor for widespread destruction or loss of life.
Examples:
Historical Context:
In the Iliad, after the Greeks successfully landed on the shores of Troy, they offered a hecatomb of oxen to appease the gods and seek their favor for the coming war.
Metaphorical Usage:
The battlefield was a hecatomb, strewn with the bodies of soldiers, a grim testament to the brutal fighting that had taken place.
Modern Metaphor:
The earthquake was a hecatomb, leaving thousands dead and entire cities in ruins.
Synonyms and Related Terms:

II.Each of these terms, while related, often carries its own connotations about the nature of the sacrifice, violence, or destruction.
Hellooo I don’t really know where else to go with this question but is there any lore or anything to go with Repugnant/Mary Goore? Are all of the characterizations of him on here just agreed upon by fans or did he actually have a story with him? Thanks sm ^_^
Hey nonny! So there isn’t an official lore on Mary—not like there is with Ghost—but there are a few things that can be considered canon, but some of them are open to interpretation.
Putting this under the cut for cw of violence and body horror, (and anyone can feel free to tack onto this).
If listen to the songs/read the lyrics, you can tell that Mary is morbid! His mind is the epitome of Dead Dove Do Not Eat. Now, I’m nutshelling the discography here, but the lyrics talk very openly about transgressing in cemeteries and violating corpses in various ways (mutilation and necrophilia) as well as committing other violent & vulgar acts of sin for Satan and/or blood lust. Lots of dead things and bad smells. (You can google the lyrics for Epitome of Darkness and Hecatomb for furtehr reading.)
So:
It can be canon that Mary is a dirty punk boy that’s in a band, Repugnant, and likes to sing about morbid shit because he’s an edgelord.
It can also be interpreted as canon that he’s a dirty punk boy that uses his band to sing about all the grotesque and vulgar atrocities he actually gets up to.
It can also be canon that songs are the lore and that the narrator in the songs is Mary Goore, no band.
Since we have no official guide, all of these interpretations fit the canon we have: he’s in band; he hangs out in cemeteries; he has a thing for dead bodies.
The mostly agreed upon fanon seems to be that Mary loves horror movies, will fuck anything, and likes thicker lovers. That he’s probably a giant sub, paints his nails, and has terrible hygiene.
In canon, Mary is in no way related to the Ghost project, so any headcanons that Mary works with the Clergy or is perhaps half-zombie (my favorite headcanon that is not mine is that he’s the illegitimate son of Zombie Queen and Secondo) or a demon is pure popular fanon.
