At first, the insane plan Thor concocted seemed to be working. Loki’s posturing and silver tongue convinced Malekith he was turning against his brother as the god threw the mortal at his feet. Then came the terrifying moment when Malekith was supposed to draw the Aether out of Jane. Kneeling and feigning hopelessness, the doctor feared that they were wrong. That the villain would not have a way of saving her. She swallowed hard, lowering her darkened eyes toward the ground as Malekith raised his hand. He would either kill her now to claim his prize or-
Suddenly, Jane found herself weightless, lifted off the ground. Her body was not under her own control, whether it was the Aether or Malekith taking possession, Jane could not say. Visions of the realms of Yggdrasil filled her sight, blinding her to the emptiness of Svartalfheim. “ No! ” Jane’s yell was rough and desperate as she forced herself to her knees; thrusting a hand out towards Malekith. The shattered bits of Aether stopped flowing towards him and hung still in the air, as if they were debating on who their host should be.
The shards swirled into a red stream and surged back through her body, veins glowing red with the transfer of power. It was too much. Jane gritted her teeth against the burning sensation spreading through her body, determined Malekith and his men would die even if it was the last thing she did. The Aether blasted outward from her, fueled by rage and anguish.
But that was when a shimmering rectangle appeared in the middle of the battlefield and figures dressed in red and black tactical gear stepped out.
