Her heart beats in her ears as she peers around the corner, chest tight as she breathes shallowly. Fear and anxiety crashing over each other in her chest, cold and cruel as it grips tight at her heart, making breathing all the more difficult.

But Isobel only balls her fists to keep her hands from shaking, nails biting into her palms and the smooth glass of her sword pinching at her skin. If she lets the emotions get too big they’ll fracture out from her, sending a signal to everyone within the temple. And then her mother will know she’s not where she’s supposed to be. The exact opposite actually.
