Matt smiled gently to himself at her response. This was good.
“You’re in the emergency room,” he replied, turning to a nurse beside him and relaying her heart rate, giving her the go-ahead to hook the girl up to an IV. His American accent stood out amongst the noise and bustle of the room. “You must have a guardian angel -- someone found you out on the road, brought you in.”
Matt moved around to the other side of the table, his gloved hand running over her face to check the depth of the cuts. She was fortunate -- they weren’t too bad, only one of them would need stitches. His eyes glanced quickly over her form, landing on the weeping wound at her neck.
“Do you remember anything...? What you were doing out there? Who did this to you?” He turned away and prepared a piece of gauze soaked in alcohol to clean the wound so he could get a better look at it underneath all the coagulated blood.
“This is going to sting a little,” he added by way of apology, running the gauze over her skin. “Might be cold too.”
