Herodias + batik, the first of the lore people to have it yippie
Sponsored by @damned-4-all-time aka herodias fan and patron #1, breakdown of motifs under cut
For Herodias, I wanted to drum up the performativeness and royalty aspect of it, since finding batik with negative meanings is unsurprisingly difficult since people generally want their hard work on the often-sacred fabric not be wasted on something that carries ill wishes, but with that said, let's get into the one that's not batik first, shall we? :)
This is kain prada, or prada cloth, originated from thee most well known place in Indonesia for its international tourism, Bali, or as the colonial Dutch propaganda sold it, the last paradise on earth. It's gold leaf adhered to cloth but modern kain prada uses imitation gold dust now, and used to only be reserved for royalties. The motifs are of the common cross-material Balinese motifs, of pepatran, kekarangan, and keketusan, also can be seen adapted onto balinese stoneworks in temples and metalworks, but I modeled Herodias' after the nightshade plant and grapevines for her common theme of poison, entrapment and schemeing (via the grape's constricting and spiralling vines), and intoxication (wine), since her first mention in the lore was that Herod mistakenly drank her spiked wine and sought Pilate's help from the effects of the drug.
The main batik motif is parang kusumo with a snake hidden in the pattern. Pretty straightforward, as far as pattern modification goes that I usually do, since parang kusumo in and of itself is already a tough one for me to tackle skills-wise ngl, but it means what it says on the box: flower parang, traditionally worn only by the princesses and consorts in the royal court, which is why i picked it. It means courage and fighting spirit, and worn during ceremonies of exchanging rings as part of a marriage process. This is once again her depicting herself as the model royal princess/consort. For the inbetweens, though, i put in thorny ivy thats strung taut bcs i also wanna put in the imagery of marriage with her is choking Herod out, it's killing him and he's trapped with no room to move.
I'll continue the breakdown in a reblog because we still have a little bit to go but i'm runningo ut of space lol
Some shitpost for pride and confirmation for the orientations of these bible OCs i share custodies of with @allsortsoftsofthings and @foronelittlekiss and how for a moment in my headcanon they occupy the same universe
Helate, Jedas, + Caiannas mention
(If God and their co-parent be willing you'll see the Jedas design again soon)
More helate lore from the vaults both inspired by co-writer @allsortsofthings-sb saying the moment Herod doesn't hold his hand under the table he starts questioning his entire existence (Rome's #1 physical touch love language guy, this one) and the latter is a direct request by them
(Context: Herod Antipas' dad, Herod the great, was the king who massacred every infant in bethlehem to kill jesus and obvi failed remarkably. Also hes a shit dad in-lore to Herod Antipas)
