Thunderhead Headcanons / my little backstory for him
Thunderhead is basically my little oc nowadays so you can imagine how much is in my head. I'd love to do one for scott and his kids one day too, but also for sure other heroes
Thunderhead - Elmo 'Mo' Current
- elmo grew up a farm boy. He lived on his family's farm with his ma and grandma, his grandfather passed long before he was born and his father passed when he was young (6-7) so he grew up pretty quick.
- he was a quiet, polite young man who kept to himself and his family. most conflict-avoidant young man on this earth.
- he quit schooling all together around 13 but was absent often even before then. he had undiagnosed learning disabilities that got him in trouble with teachers a lot, who were frustrated with him - and as he got older his family needed him on the farm more, so he quit.
- undiagnosed autism, dyslexia.
- born with his powers, no idea where they came from but he mostly used them when the natural weather wasn't agreeing with him. they are very connected to his emotions but when he's calm and focused he can do whatever.
- didn't struggle too bad with his sexuality, kinda. he kinda saw himself as rotten on the inside for his abilities and disabilities before he ever developed feelings for scott, so being gay was just another thing that made him 'wrong' - but just like his brain and his powers, he couldn't do nothin about his heart.
- met scott when they were teenagers. they were each other's first real friends and bonded over their shared mousey nature, with scott being a bit more outgoing. scott had the big brain to match his big heart.
- he loved that man like he hung the moon and stars, whenever they were alone, he always had his arms around him, his lips on his, his hand entwined with scotty's. if you talked to him, he could talk about his husband and kids all day.
- his ma knew, but they never discussed it, she called Scott his 'friend' and left it at that.
- in his late teens, early 20s he developed issues with depression. he had a very bad episode one day and caused a full on hurricane that did a lot of damage (foreshadowing) which caught the NSA's attention. He and scott were transferred to the city and after a few months, he was Thunderhead!
- gets along better with kids than adults, younger kids aren't as judgey and even though he never saw himself with a wife, he always saw himself as a father. so when the NSA opened up a super adoption program, he and Scott were the first registered foster parents.
- stay at home dad! after he left the farm, he missed the manual labour, so helping around the house and gardening was a microcosm of that and his patrol schedule was pretty loose so it gave him plenty of time to get the kids to and from school etc.
- gave all his kids weather themed nicknames, called Scott almost exclusively 'scotty' and nothing else.
- most of the nsa didn't know he was gay, and assumed scott was family or was his NSA assigned handler, and only those he trusted got close enough to know they were practically married
- brought his kids to work fairly often, especially when they were babies and toddlers. they grew up with lots of aunts and uncles wearing domino masks and cowls. he had issues trusting babysitters cause he never knew when his kids' powers were gonna kick in and get them relocated.
- that said, I also think helen babysat for him a few times when he desperately needed it, since she was a super herself.
- deeply insecure about his intelligence and gets defensive sometimes about it - will sulk if it's brought up so enjoy getting rained on.
- big fan of baked goods and homecooked food. he said effort makes any food more delicious.
- gets pinned in the nsa ranks with the (meant derogatorily) nickname 'mother hen', but he never realised it was an insult.
- kinda man to be in the middle of a conversation about politics and suddenly pretend his kids were calling for him so he could go hang out with them instead.
- a good few years older than Bob and Helen, most of his kids were teenagers by the time he passed.
- I headcanon that his youngest kid was Helectrix from Incredibles 2.
- his body was recovered after the incident but he couldn't have an open casket. scott knew elmo wouldn't want any of his kids to see him in the state he was found in.
- the only reason scott didn't lose their kids afterwards (the kids legally weren't scott's, just elmo's, and there was no legal connection in place between the two) was due to a lot of pushing from the heroes closest to the two, who also helped scott out with the kids afterwards.
