Helfenburk and Kalvarie

On sunny autumn days like this a grab my picturemaking machine and run of the one of the hundreds of historical locations here. Today I decided to go to Helfenburk, a ruin of a castle from the 14th century, and Kalvárie u Ostré, an absolutely stunning baroque sanctuary with an amazing view of CHKO České středohoří.

Kalvárie really surprised me, because it used to be in terrible shape. The chapels are still crumbling and there's a number of headless baroque statues on the stairway, but  the government has been slowly financing its repairs (If you ask me, the headless statues are pretty awesome). If you happen to visit, you'll also notice fourteen beautifully repaired Stations of the Cross guarding the path all the way up to the chapels. However, the cherry on top of the cake is the view. Indescribable.

I've been driving past Kalvárie for the past three years without stopping to check the place out, I'm glad I finally decided to visit :-)
