tobyharrimanA week or so ago I was invited on a mini overnight Heli-hiking trip out to Knik Glacier with @flyalphaair x @anchoragehelicoptertours

I obviously jumped onboard without a second thought. I have flown over and around this area a few times in bush planes and have always wanted to camp out and explore the area more. So this was our chance! We got dropped off mid afternoon, set up camp and hiked the ridge and onto Knik Glacier to explore around. When we finally got back to camp we were graced with a pretty stunning sunset. But just like all adventures, they come to an end and we were picked up the next morning to head home. So stoked to see more companies offering services like this! Next time I need to stay a few days though :D

Franz Josef

Première étape de notre road trip et non des moindres, le glacier Franz Josef !! En route pour un tour d’hélicoptère pour grimper sur ce géant de glace. Armés de nos crampons, nous avons vécu une excursion frissons. On en prend plein la vue ! La ballade est facile, mais il faut rester prudents, le glacier est en constant mouvement : nous avons assisté à un magnifique éboulement de roches. Quand on dit roches c’est surtout un ENORME rocher qui se décroche et qui littéralement s’éclate en dizaines de pierres juste au dessus de nos têtes..

Franz Josef est un glacier qui s’étend sur 12 km et est ( avec son voisin Fox ) unique au monde puisqu’il arrive à 300 m au dessus du niveau de la mer, ce qui le rend facilement accessible. A ses jeunes années, le glacier s’étendait jusqu’à la Mer Tasman ( à 19 km). Hélas, il fond de plus en plus rapidement et on se sent un peu chanceux d’avoir pu grimper dessus.
