I'm taking a class on this history of western civilization and we just started covering the scientific revolution. So we're talking about heliocentrism vs geocentrism, and I thought I knew about what heliocentrism was all about, but apparently I don't. Why did I just learn that they thought that the planets existed on crystal spheres as their method of perfect cylindrical revolution around the earth.

I know we live in a heliocentric system, but I also understand why people would be skeptical of that. Like, a flat earth is pretty easy to disprove but if you look up for a long time, the sky definitely seems geocentric.
