50 years ago… astronaut-aquanaut Scott Carpenter’s Rolex watches Navy test-pilot, NASA Astronaut & Navy SEALAB Aquanaut Malcolm Scott Carpenter was the first American astronaut to wear a wristwatch in space, a Breitling NaviTimer Cosmonaute during his May 1962 MA-7 “Aurora-7” mission. After his spaceflight Carpenter met French naval officer/researcher Jacques-Yves Cousteau and joined US Navy SeaLab program as an Aquanaut. Between 1964 & 1970, Carpenter was seen wearing Rolex Submariner diving watches and he also got a Rolex SeaDweller, one of the very first in the USA. Carpenter retired from NASA in 1967, and from the US Navy in 1969. 50 years ago, in 1970 Carpenter had his third official NASA portrait taken in which he wore his Navy Commander uniform & a Rolex Submariner 5512 diving toolwatch on a black strap.
