MUTATION
Mental Persuasion — Helen's mutation allows her to mentally manipulate people to do, well, pretty much anything. In the simplest terms, at least, though it's hardly without limitations. While she is unable to control the actions of other people, she's quite good at getting them to confess some of their dark and dirty secrets. And while her mutation doesn't allow her to control their actions, the information she can pull out of them usually does the trick.
She also has horns. They're similar in size, shape, and appearance to the horns of a Ram. She assumes the two mutations are related, otherwise nature has played a very cruel joke on her.
BACKGROUND
Needless to say, growing up with horns protruding from your head can't be easy and growing them can't exactly be painless. Neither emotionally or physically. Helen was a sheltered child, with parents who feared what might happen to their daughter if she ventured out into the worlds looking like something that stepped out the book of Revelations. Not that their caution wasn't without cause. More than once, Helen remembers being woken by breaking glass and people standing outside of their suburban home shouting for the Darrows to take their daughter back to hell where she came from.
Exhausted with being under lock and key her entire childhood, teenage years brought with them an intense need for rebellion. Which seemed rather fitting for a fifteen year old with horns. She found a sense of home that she'd lacked within the countercultures, flourishing underground in her relatively quiet suburban neighborhood. It felt good to be accepted and even embraced by others with abnormalities of their own. She had friends for the first time and people she cared deeply about.
Teen years also brought with them the manifestation of a secondary mutation, much to Helen's surprise. There wasn't ever a time in her life where she can playing the role of a confidant. She certainly didn't look trust worthy, yet people seemed to come to her to expose their deepest secrets. It took her a while to figure out that it was another mutation and eventually she grew into it, using the ability to her own gain.
Having grown up on the most hated end of the mutant spectrum, being outcast from her society at a young age, Helen has developed an intense compassion for young mutants. She eventually grew out of mindless rebellion and into a feisty woman with a passion for helping those who share similar stories with her. She goes out of her way to help Mutant Town citizens who are down on their luck and in 2011, she was able to gather funds (though she won't disclose from where) to open up a much needed community center in the city she calls home.
Safe Passage is the result of her passion and kindness, but never mistake that for weakness. She can be stern and doesn't lay down if she's crossed. Jokingly adopting the nickname "Hell," it's fitting in more than just her physical appearance. She is incredibly protective of the young mutants that come and go through her center and threatening any of them will ignite her fury in ways you'll wish you'd never seen.
