Hell Hath Fury
This is an old project of mine that i have recently been "remaking" so to speak.
For those wondering; this does take place in the same world as Tumblr writes a story, it does not however take place at the same time.
This is only the first part of the story. Any feedback would be appreciated, if you would like to see more please let me know.
I hope you enjoy.
This story begins in the country of Zethus, or rather just to the east. You see, to the east of Zethus there was an island. This island was unlike any you’ve ever seen before; its surface was charred, trees reduced to ashes, the only thing on the island was a single structure; a large stone foundation with four pillars surrounding a large stone altar.
No-one dared to venture there. It was dubbed “Devil’s End” as People believed the Devil used it as a base to spread sin throughout the land (and they weren’t entirely wrong). Until one day, an adventurer named Sir Tarrich Riverbarrel proclaimed that he would be the first to set foot on the island.
Tarrich was well-known across the land for his heroics. He slew many great beasts and explored many before undiscovered lands. His crowning achievement was his slaying of the great Minotaur of Wrath, Gnatagar, for this Tarrich was knighted and gifted a powerful sword with which he would vanquish evil for centuries to come.
Tarrich had set off for Devil’s End with a party of four up and coming adventurers along with a small crew of sailors. The leader of the party was Luna of Ashenrest, former princess turned paladin; beside her stood Elnile Iärda, the Drow warlock who abandoned her people; finally were Jimtim and Miraan, a Gnome ranger and Half-orc Druid respectively, They considered themselves brothers despite being of separate kin.
Soon the Party had made landfall. The island smelled of fire and brimstone. Tarrich stepped out onto the smouldered ground, unsure of the safety but nevertheless wanting to set a good example. He was anxious as his foot made contact with the scorched earth. He let out a sigh of relief when he found that no harm had come to him. Tarrich signalled for the group to follow. There wasn’t much to see on the island so the stone structure was quite evident. Written upon the pillars that surrounded the altar was a script alien to the party, the structure was otherwise vapid.
One man dared closer to it, the air grew cold and filled with smoke, a shadowy figure emerged in front of the man. It was covered in a tattered old cloak, its face shrouded in smoke. The figure grabbed him by the shoulders, forcing him onto the altar. It reached towards the man's chest. Tarrich attempted to draw his sword, but found his body would not respond, as if he wasn't in control of himself. The rest of the party found that they too could not move. The figure made contact with the man's chest, its hand continuing downward reaching inside. Tarrich could do not but watch as the figure's hand once again exited the man's chest, now bearing his still-beating heart. The other adventurers looked on in horror as the figure held the heart aloft. The heart burst into flame. The fire glowed blue as the ocean, burning the heart to ash. The party could move once again, but it was too late, the man lay lifeless on the altar. The figure vanished. The sky began to split, as though someone had cut through the fabric of reality itself. The land on the other side was stoney and bleak with nigh any vegetation, fire scattered on every flammable surface. There was no sky to speak of, looking up revealed a ceiling laden with stalactites and crystals that glowed an unwelcoming shade red. Out of the rift stepped a person. Their exact appearance is hard to describe, the only thing the party could seem to remember about the person was a human shaped figure wearing a white mask, with red markings vaguely mimicking eyes and a mouth.Tarrich and Luna lept forwards drew their swords to protect the party: “State your name and business outsider.” Tarrich announced, “And no lies.” Luna finished. “Worry not my friends, I haven’t the heart to lie.” the stranger responded “My name is Damus Altare and I seek council with the king.” the group, uncharictaristically, believed them without a second thought. Everyone made their way to the ship, the sacrificed man’s body had been taken along too.
