The many faces of Hell Is Us

I’ve been replaying this game to finally get the 100%. I’ll probably speak a little more about it soon, because I don’t quite get the mixed reviews.

just finished Hell Is Us and man what a game. i wish it was longer-honestly it felt like there could have been another act. it does end kind of suddenly but still in a satisfying way.

gameplay wise, the combat is fun but nothing spectacular. but also, the combat really isn't the reason to play it. the exploration and puzzle solving is really the main selling point as you recall landmarks and paths and put the pieces together with the combat acting as a nice in between to those aspects

i honestly am not a puzzle gamer. most purely puzzle games make me frustrated to the point of quitting, but i never felt that way with Hell Is Us so even if puzzles aren't your thing, i highly recommend it. they're not all super easy, but they are straightforward if that makes sense. not purposely obscure or disjointed and a lot of the core themes of the game run through the puzzles which helps

i'm always a sucker for modern post-apocalyptic settings and mixing fantasy and sci-fi with the modern so aesthetically this game was right up my alley and the music is this gorgeous, earie dreadful sound that plays perfectly with the setting and story. speaking of story, it is a dark, dark game. there were a few moments i almost cried and just had to pause because of how real it can get with the suffering and hatred, but if you can make it past that and like stories with dark themes, i can't recommend it more

Disappointed!

So I am watching a streamer start Hell is Us and I don’t think this lets play is for me. Don’t get me wrong I have enjoyed this streamer in the past, such as yesterday, (I don’t even go to Hollow Knight but her joy of Silksong is infectious) but she’s missing lore. So much lore. There were conversation chains unexplored. Like yeah it’s super early in the game and she can continue those conversations in a second, but what if I watch for like an hour and there’s still barely any lore? I need the lore. I vaguely remember some of the lore because I watched someone else play the demo, but that’s not enough

Thankfully, I am not deranged enough to backseat, just because my preference for this game is to collect all the lore doesn’t mean it’s better or not, plus I was watching a vod of the stream so it’s not like I could affect much even if I did decide to be an a- hole, but I might have to hunt for another person to watch play the game. It’s not her, it’s my hunger. Gosh I hope that lore hound I watched play the demo continues playing.
