“You’ve been oddly quiet today” Patrick interrupts his own reading by putting his thumb between the pages of the book. If Mina paid even just a minimal amount of attention to what Patrick was doing, then she probably would have noticed that he’d been reading the same page for the past twenty minutes. At one point his attention had been diverted to the quiet figure next to him, and instead of following the lines, he kept observing her from the corner of his eyes. Not exactly subtle, but that wasn’t what he was going for.
He turns his head to the female shortly after closing the book, and openly expresses his curiosity with a raised eyebrow. “Or... quieter than usual” his smile seems oddly calm and neutral for someone who wouldn’t interrupt his own reading even if he was begged to, but had done exactly that just to talk to Mina. “Is there anything bothering you? Or are you simply lost in thoughts you’re unwilling to share?”
