Recently my friend @Thievie and I did a little gamejam of sorts where we made music and art in support of a game concept we came up with. For me, it was 3 songs in 3 nights while on a business trip, and it was a very rewarding exercise.
Here are the tracks I made along with the sprite art by @Thievie. For each day we decided upon a sort of theme, and I'll give a description of that for each piece:
Day 1: Main theme/main character
In our JRPG-inspired world, the player character inhabits a lush rainforest society beset on all sides by a desert sea; they are a postperson, working to deliver mail to all the forest's citizens, which is a highly respected guild for which to work. The forest has an upper level, the Canopy, where the rich and aristocratic live and work, and the Floor, which is home to the working class. The working class also manages and maintains the wooden superstructure that holds the Canopy in place.
@Thievie's first character design is the Postmaster, one of the first characters the player would meet. He is a lively and jovial sort, but very acrobatic and skilled at navigating the dense vegetation. He recurs throughout the story.
For my music, I chose to incorporate instrumentation that I felt fit the rainforest setting, and for the melody I went with something adventurous without being overly saccharine.
