Ship It
1) What made you ship it?
I wasn’t actually particularly interested in it in the Gonzo era, but the manga def sold me on it. Probably from the first interaction in Badrick, they’re both just having so much fun! And I just love mortal enemy ships, but what really really cinched it for me is the entirety of the episode 8 fight, and how Alucard tries to save Anderson from becoming like him. It’s *such* a good sequence.
2) What are your favorite things about the ship?
“Beloved Nemesis”
I enjoy that they’re foils to each other, and represent such polar opposite things. Dynamics that are based on like... obsession borne of hate are very fun to me. Though I wouldn’t say Alucard hates Anderson, he seems enamored by him almost right away. But I’m just talking about that very specific “I would LOVE to kill you” thing they both have going on.
I’m also just really interested in the subtle similarities the narrative framing draws between Anderson and Van Helsing. It’s never really expanded upon textually (what in Hellsing is lol) but it def leaves me very curious.
Also Alucard crying over Anderson after dealing him a mortal blow, and then Anderson comforts him??? I fucking adore it.
3) Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I just can’t ever see them in any sort of cute or fluffy context, sorry. It’s all about the violence and bloodshed.
