Communication with the gods
(A beginners guide)
So, a lot of people who have been new in helpol think you can actually see/hear the gods. Which don’t get me wrong, sometimes (very rarely) can you hear them in the back of your head.
So what’s MY experience with them?
When I’m communicating with Lady Athena, when she ‘replies’ it’s like a little voice in the back of my head, or intuition, or something like that. Sometimes I could be yapping to my candle (with no outside wind) it would flicker heavily, possibly even grow bigger.
I’m also VERY sensitive with energy, I’m empathetic, meaning I can very easily sense the gods’ presence without much effort. Most of the time I don’t need to meditate, it just happens. They affect my mood.
But how do you communicate with them?
They listen. You can just talk to them, they’ll listen, you can use tarots. Or they’ll send you signs. For E.G: I get a lot of owl signs from Lady Athena, they aren’t very common in my area, but I grew up with random pictures, to even actual owls being sighted around me. On top of sometimes having a motherly energy.
Will you need to build a connection with them before you can even get your first sign? Sometimes! (Correct me if I’m wrong) unless they choose you first. They’ll give you signs then, that is known as a patron god/goddess. It can happen with any god (Greek or otherwise)
Even goddesses like Hestia, Artemis, Athena, or even Hera will reach out to you. It doesn’t have to be ‘non virgin’ if that’s what you were thinking.
Can you label yourself as ‘family’.
YES! That is TOTALLY okay, anyone who says otherwise is.. uh. Idk how to put it. Anyways, there have been MULTIPLE occasions where I have called Lady Athena ‘mom’ by accident. And that is completely okay, especially if you live in a not so great household, and it’s not hubris since you’re not equaling yourself, nor putting yourself above.
Devotional acts.
Anything related to/that you can do is a devotional act to your god/goddess. Even sometimes music that reminds you of them.
Small things like cleaning up your neighborhood, standing up for you, your rights, and your opinions, even sometimes other people can be devotional. If you’re unable to, don’t label yourself as ‘unworthy’. Even I, a child of Lady Athena, have a hard time living up to her name. And that is okay, you are mortal after all.

If I remember correctly, it’s goodwill. Showing others kindness, returning what has been given to you, and building relationships.
We do this because the gods don’t always recognize us, and that is okay! But if you want their attention you have to show you deserve it (which you do. Don’t worry).
But giving back to your community, being kind to yourself, and others, building a relationship with the gods. All of that, it’s a lot of work, but in my opinion it’s worth it.
Worshipping
You do NOT need an alter to worship the gods, that is a false rumor. You don’t need to pray out loud, you don’t need to do any of that. You can pray in your head, you can just set things down for them, you don’t need to have a pretty space for them. If you want to, there is no right way to do so.
Gifts/offerings
You can offer basically anything.
Just last night I offered one of my favorite books to Lady Athena. But you can offer food, jewelry, art (NOT AI ART.), poetry, or even songs. They will accept all of it. If you are unable to.. that is okay. They will understand.
When can you eat the food(if you decide to give it to them)
For the pantheon you can eat the food you gave to them. Or you can depose of it, either or.
for underworld worship.. NEVER EAT THE FOOD. That is disrespectful, instead you can leave it, put it in nature (if it is healthy for the environment.) or dispose of it, just don’t eat it, please.
